And we have Speroach, this dude Rexxie, he’s the one that’s doing all the Zanku songs. When he was a teen, A Boogie listened to 50 Cent and Kanye West and got inspired to write raps about his rough and tumble Bronx neighborhood.

A Boogie Wit da HoodieWhile A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie‘s voice and melodies are often entrancing in his recorded music, the rapper struggled to complement his trademark songs with live energy at his performance at Belasco Theater Tuesday night. JHN calls his presence at New York’s first Rolling Loud good timing” in light of his appearances across the traveling festival’s Miami, L.A. and Bay Area staples. But the moment feels kismet since JHN is one of the few surviving New York performers who were able to hit the stage.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, born Julius Dubose, is an American rapper who sometimes goes by the shortened version of his stage name, “A Boogie.” His original brand of funky trap rap quickly became a favorite in the rap community after he released his first mixtape called Artist, which contained his breakout single, “Oh Sht.” Without ever releasing an EP, A Boogie was on Forbes list of up-and-coming rappers in 2016. By 2018, he would see his name in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

Sources close to A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie tell us Touray is not the rapper’s day to day manager, but was only brought in for specific events. With those two songs in the can, Boogie had the basis for his debut mixtape Artist, which he released at the top of 2016.

Dubose was featured on fellow New York rapper 6ix9ine ‘s single, ” Keke ” on January 14, 2018. The song peaked at 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 Dubose also appeared on the song “Waka” on 6ix9ine’s album Dummy Boy released in November 2018.

The rapper, decked out in the camo hoodie and ripped jeans, kept the crowd pumped with flashing lights and luring visuals, which ranged from dripping water to roaming cityscapes. He opened with Look Back At It,” played through Beasty” and, by the time he reached his fifth song, had the majority of the 300 section refusing to take a seat.

California native, AndersonPaak, who released Ventura, his fourth studio album, earlier this year, is set to hit the stage on Sunday, November 3, while Kid Cudi will perform on Saturday, November 2.

When he was a teen, A Boogie listened to 50 Cent and Kanye West and became inspired to write raps about his rough and tumble Bronx neighborhood. I’ve always had the passion to rap. Growing up in the hood, just rapping about what you see,” he explains.

Beyond the fact that his latest album Hoodie SZN has gone number one with singles like Swervin’” and Look Back At It” climbing the charts, our conversation left us thinking about exactly what it is that has made people continuously perk their ears up to his name.

We’re told A Boogie and his team no longer have any relationship with Touray. Julius Dubose, known professionally as A Boogie wit da Hoodie, or simply A Boogie, will be headlining Lawnparties this spring.

Melodically skipping over beats since 2016, A Boogie — born Artist Julius Dubose — came into the game walking the tightrope between sensitive and street. Sparked by the flame of resentment, Dubose introduced himself to the game in Feb. 2016 with his debut, the heartbreak-ridden mixtape Artist. While his breakout track My Sht” demonstrated his ability to rise from the trenches and deliver a New York anthem, tracks like the fan-favorite D.T.B.” branded Dubose as a skeptic of love, ultimately establishing the persona that drove his Highbridge come up.

Lil Baby later jumped into I Am” but the stage’s smoke and the rapper’s hits only kept the audience on their toes for so long. Once the rapper finished performing his top-ten hit Drip Too Hard,” audience members quickly filed out of the arena.

Were you frustrated with how long it took? Not really, because we’ve got our stuff going back home, too. You know what I’m saying? Even me today, I make most of my money from back home. And even before afrobeats got mainstream in America, we’ve been coming to do shows. I did a show in New York in 2013 to 5,000 people, and this was when I didn’t have most of my big records I have now. Sold it out. But now it’s mainstream. You have Live Nation now partnering with us to do shows. Back then it was just like local promoters selling tickets at the clubs and we still had the numbers. Now, our fans can put on the radio and hear us.

A BOOGIE WIT DA HOODIE March 28, 7 p.m., $30-$40. House of Blues, 702-632-7600. A Boogie released The Bigger Artist , his debut studio album, on September 29, 2017.

A member of A Boogie wit da Hoodie’s management team was arrested and charged with felony battery after violently punching several women in a hotel room following one of the rapper’s performances in Las Vegas.

It’s a typical day at the photographer Eric Johnson’s midtown studio: eating sour candies in director’s chairs, watching television as we wait for a chart-topping rapper to ring the intercom. When we were waiting for Rich the Kid , it was Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. For Anderson Paak , it was Purple Rain. But while we were waiting for A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, we had the enormous pleasure of seeing a local news report about a brave chicken in Long Island who literally crossed a road.

Billboard and Nielsen credit Hoodie SZN” with the equivalent of 58,000 sales in the United States last week, a number that incorporates streams and downloads of individual tracks, as well as sales of the full album. But the vast majority of that composite number is from streaming — so much so that the sales number represents a new low on the chart.

SAINt JHN’s amalgamation of primal energy and eager mosh pits at Rolling Loud are unmatched. A hazy sunset would’ve been a fitting pairing for his rage session, but his early set at New York’s Citi Field Saturday (Oct. 12) gets the job done. While a few curious eyes from VIP are studying the vibes, the trenches are full of fans screaming lyrics to 5,000 Singles,” “94 Bentley” and Trap” (feat. Lill Baby)—all standouts from his sophomore project, Ghetto Lenny’s Love Songs.

His music began with a single ‘Temporary’ which he dropped on Soundcloud. He was just nineteen at the time of its release. The song lacked good rhythm and flow which is usually required for a good hip-hop number. Myster Whyte, who he met in Florida and the producer of the song, hired a trainer and asked A Boogie to work with his trainer until he gets his techniques right. The training sessions helped him a lot and he incorporated all that he learned into his raps.

Toward the end of his set, the rapper asked audience members to throw up their hands and turn on their phone flashlights for his track Jungle,” which resulted in a sea of lights. He then thanked the audience for helping him earn a No. 1 record on the Billboard 200 with Hoodie Szn,” as its album cover repeatedly flashed on the stage’s screen.

Once doors opened, DJ Cranberry sought to keep the relatively young audience engaged by playing a mix of contemporary hits, from Blueface’s Bleed It” to JuiceWRLD’s Lucid Dreams.” After Cranberry, hip-hop artist Trap Manny brought palpable energy to the stage, stepping off stage multiple times to take off layers of his clothing. He performed his song Relentless,” but due to his relatively small following, the crowd seemed to react more to his energy than to his music. Afterward, A Boogie’s labelmate and New York-based rapper Don Q took the stage. Unlike Trap Manny, his stage presence was minimal and, even though he performed almost entirely within the crowd, poor sound mixing and a lack of care to finishing his verses failed him.

Hoodie SZN has both versions, and it’s a good reason behind this too. Hoodie SZN got a lot of songs on it, as you can see, and I was going to break them up and have Hoodie SZN just be straight hoodie-on, street vibes while Artist has the love songs, but I feel like that’s not me, though. I always have to mix it in and balance it out between the street and the love, so that’s why I named my tour A Boogie vs. Artist, because I’m just fighting amongst myself.

ComplexCon Long Beach is excited to add AndersonPaak, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, YBN Crew, Rico Nasty, EarthGang, and guest artist Trap Manny to the list of performers who will take its stage at the Long Beach Convention Center between November 2-3. They join previously-announced headliner and Award-winning musician Kid Cudi to make this ComplexCon’s heaviest lineup of performers yet.

Fast rising rapper out of the Bronx who made a name for himself in 2016 with two mixtapes by the names of Artist and Highbridge the Label: The Takeover, Vol. 1.

What are your thoughts about seeing really large artists pay so much homage to the afrobeats sound? I mean some people find it offensive, but I actually don’t. I mean, first of all, people in Africa do hip-hop, right? So you can’t come and say these people are taking our sound when we have artists back home doing trap, doing all these things. I feel that everybody should feel free to do what they want to do, but maybe it won’t hurt to evolve. Like, I feel like it was nice how Swae Lee had Tekno produce that record for him and Drake, stuff like that. And they have more of our producers more involved in the sound because those are the ones who really know how to get the sound. Yeah, I think the producer side needs more shine but apart from that, doing afrobeats is for everybody. Any artist is free to do any kind of music they want.

Additional core cast members include Alfie and Dee-Dee’s older sister Melanie Parker (Aisling Sistrunk),, Alfie’s best friend Milton “Goo” Berry (Jimmy Lee Newman, Jr.) who has an infatuation with Melanie, Melanie’s best friend and Donnell’s older sister Dionne Wilburn (Amanda Seales), Dee-Dee’s best friend and Dionne’s younger brother Donnell Wilburn (Stefan J. Wernli),, Dee-Dee’s other best friend Harry White (Keith “Bubba” Naylor), and local comic book store owner Mrs. Pinckney (Kym Whitley).

The highly anticipated video release finds the Highbridge rapper on a chase to get the girl of his dreams. It opens up with Boogie on a plane that seems to be descending, fast, as its wings erupts in flames.
