alec benjamin tour dates us – Alec Benjamin Interview

And that was from an album that I had tried to release when I had been signed to another label. I started sending cold emails of music to random songwriters, and then I met this songwriter in the UK and started going back and forth.

alec benjamin age water fountain – Alec Benjamin Releases New Single And Music Video For JESUS IN LA

ALEC BENJAMINRising star Alec Benjamin is closing out his Outrunning Karma Tour with a bang. I’m always writings songs, I never really stop so I’m doing that. I have a new song that just came out called “Death of a Hero” after that maybe an another single and then a mixtape after that. Hopefully, an album at the beginning of next year. I’m definitely going to keep writing and keep putting music out, now there’s a dialogue with the people that listen to my music, so I want to continue to give them that.

Favorite childhood travel memory? My favorite memory is when I lived in New York, I would travel to my grandparents’ place in Arizona. I just love my grandparents, so it could have been anywhere — I just enjoy spending time with them. It’s special to get to spend time with people you care about.

Benjamin: I went to the University of Southern California for a year, then I dropped out of school. I got a record deal my first year, and then I got dropped by my record label. I did a ton of shows and started over again. I made a bunch of new music, and that’s how I ended up here. I played a lot of shows outside of other people’s concerts. I did pretty much whatever I could to build up a fanbase and keep writing music so that when the opportunity came around that I might get a second chance, I would be ready for it.

Hi, I’m Alec Benjamin. I’m from Phoenix. I live in L.A. I got into music. I play guitar. I play piano. I sing. I tell stories. I’m a narrator. I went to school. I got signed. I made an album. I got dropped. I played a fuck ton of shows. I toured with Jon Bellion, Matisyahu, and Hoodie Allen. I played parking lots and lines during Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts to get fans. I handed out a ton of business cards. My Staples bill was insane. I wrote a bunch of new songs. Now, I’m putting them out. The first one is called Let Me Down Slowly.” That’s only Chapter 1.

Alec is very much a self-made artist, building his fan base by performing in parking lots outside Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan gigs and handing out his business cards to those who would stop to listen. He built his brand from the ground up.

Singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin has dropped a kind-hearted music video for his track Must Have Been the Wind.” Directed by Conner Evert, the emotional video follows Benjamin has he feels concern for a female neighbor in crisis.

Benjamin’s song “I Built a Friend” was used as backing material for a contemporary dance audition of contestant Merrick Hanna, on episode 1 of the 12th season of America’s Got Talent. He made his US television debut when he performed “Let Me Down Slowly” on The Late Late Show with James Corden on January 8, 2019.

I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, and I believe every genre has something interesting to bring to the table. There are certain things each genre does best. Growing up, some of my favorite artists were Jason Mraz and John Mayer and then through that, I got into Paul Simon. But I also listen to a lot of heavy metal, like Slipknot. I listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers but also listen to straight pop music like Katy Perry; I was a big fan of hers but I wasn’t like going to shows or anything like that but I think she has great music. I feel like the hook in other pop songs is always something I can learn from and get inspired by. I listen to some country too; I think country is great for telling stories, but my all-time favorites are Eminem, Paul Simon, Jason Mraz and John Mayer. I love Eminem because I love his words. I like music that has something important to say, there are so many things that happen in life, so I’m into songs that hold a specific meaning.

Mayer’s guest performance made the show feel even more casual, as the two bantered about Tinder and their distinct height difference before jumping into the songs. After the duo performed stripped-back versions of Death Of A Hero” and Mayer’s Slow Dancing in a Burning Room,” Mayer left the stage. Benjamin then discussed the lyrics of the former song, explaining growing up leads to the realization that heroes are fake. Yet, he said that song ironically led to him performing alongside Mayer – his own hero – Thursday night.

I just felt like, I don’t know necessarily if it’s the one song that’s my favorite or if it had the most important message. But it was the song that I felt like I had to write at the time. And I put it out and kind of the people decided. It was getting streamed the most, so I guess that’s how I picked. I don’t really decide what the singles are. I let the people decide.

Alec Benjamin is an American pop singer and songwriter from Arizona. After releasing a mixtape EP called America in 2013, he recorded his debut single, “Paper Crown,” in his dorm room at the University of Southern California, self-releasing it in 2014. He followed it in 2016 with a stream of songs, including “The Water Fountain,” “End of the Summer,” and “I Built a Friend,” all featuring his smooth, youthful vocals and keyboard-based arrangements. That same year, a song he co-wrote with Jon Bellion, “New York Soul, Pt. 2,” appeared on Bellion’s album The Human Condition. The single “Let Me Down Slowly” arrived in 2018.

Yeah. But I try to be careful about like… I’ve been putting out a lot of music recently, and I’m trying to just like always temper the way that I feel. Because, otherwise there’s too many highs and lows. So, I’m trying to keep more of an even keel. I’m excited, but also I’m trying not to be too excited because it’s emotionally exhausting. When you have so many things happening, you can’t be that way about all of them because it may be bad for me sometimes.

Oh yeah, my fans probably know that I do have a little OCD. It kind of makes me want to stick to the same kind of look and attire every day,” said Alec, a look of embarrassment flashed on his face (Alec was clad in a slightly crumpled white T-shirt, loose beige trousers, and high-cut white socks and white sneakers).

He’s been praised by John Mayer, who shouted Alec out on Instagram at the end of last year. Billie Eilish went a step further, covering his song Water Fountain on her own Instagram account. Now that it’s been weeks since that happened, Alec Benjamin is revealing what really went down when he met Jimin.

The artist initially cultivated a fanbase on YouTube, and has quickly covered a lot of ground from making videos. Bejnamin recently opened for Camila Cabello , has over 50 million global streams on Spotify and can claim ten out of seventeen sold-out tour dates so far.

Benjamin would also log onto YouNow, a pre-Periscope live broadcasting platform, and search the hashtag music,” where users could gather to watch others perform. If he waited in a queue long enough, someone else would log off, and Benjamin would get their followers, moving up a spot in the system. I would sit on there, just waiting to get in the first position so I could sing for people,” he says. Sometimes he’d wait all day just for the chance to perform for 10 seconds in front of a few hundred people, in hopes that one of him would take an interest in his music.

Either you really like John Mayer, or you don’t like me,” Benjamin said to the crowd’s elation. Alec Benjamin performed at The Pavillion @ Far East Square, Singapore on 20 August before continuing his ‘Caught in the Middle’ tour , to Texas, USA.

That’s a tough question for me. I’m not really sure. If I knew then I would be like, I don’t know. The whole songwriting process would be easier for me. Sometimes I push myself maybe when I’m not really in a creative space and I get frustrated. So, I feel like I’m still figuring that out.

Based on Jimin’s glasses and casual clothes in the pics, it definitely seemed like he wanted to keep his appearance at Benjamin’s concert low key at the time (again, probably because Jimin was on vacation!).
