In 2016 Anne-Marie enjoyed her biggest hit to date with Rockabye – the single released by electro group Clean Bandit and also featuring music legend Sean Paul. Why focus on an album that will inevitably include some filler when the singles are so ironclad?

The album has been a long time coming: it is now almost five years since her debut solo single, Summer Girl, which was released before she disappeared back into development and a live apprenticeship of sorts with Rudimental. She found healthy employment as a guest vocalist with Wretch 32 , Gorgon City and Magnetic Man, thanks to her effortless knack for RihannaVoice – an affective instrument, by turns tropical, trebly and guttural – and shared last year’s Christmas No 1 with Clean Bandit and Sean Paul for Rockabye , an enjoyably odd tribute to single mothers.

Hers is a very 2018 pop CV, reflecting five years of change in which streaming has flattened sales and success feels more erratic than ever. Commenters on one pop forum reckon that Anne-Marie was meant to be more of an Adele, pointing to the stately Breathing Fire, which was abandoned as a single after Alarm blew up (Anne-Marie says pulling it was her decision). Turning female solo artists into pop stars has been hard in this era – only Dua Lipa has managed it – but Anne-Marie looks close.

The single setback of the event was a lady standing on the bench decided to continuously kick me and my girlfriend in the back of our legs and even reaching up to my lower back sometimes. Other than that the experience was wonderful.

Her debut EP, Karate, was released via Atlantic and Major Tom’s in late 2015. In early 2016, she released Do It Right” , which was followed by her breakthrough single Alarm” The Clean Bandit and Sean Paul collaboration Rockabye” was an even bigger success, becoming the UK Christmas #1 in 2016.

Future superstar Anne- doesn’t do things by halves. Ever since she was two years old and joined her local performing arts school, she’s wanted to be the best at whatever she puts her mind to. But music has always been her passion and after touring the world with Rudimental, she’s ready to be the best again.

Not many teachers of writing bring the kind of intelligence, compassion, creativity, and sense of fun to the classroom that Anne-Marie Oomen has to offer. As a director of an MFA program and as a writer myself, I am repeatedly awed by the way Anne-Marie brings out the best in her students, leading them down paths they didn’t even know existed inside them. Every time I have a chance to take an Oomen class, I do, and come out a better writer for the experience.

China has emerged as a member of the elite club of nations who are powerful at both global poles. Polar states are global giants, strong in military, scientific, and economic terms. The concept of a polar great power is relatively unknown in international relations studies; yet China, a rising power globally, is now widely using this term to categorize its aspirations and emphasize the significance of the polar regions to their national interests. China’s focus on becoming a polar great power represents a fundamental re-orientation – a completely new way of imagining the world. China’s push into these regions encompasses maritime and nuclear security, the frontlines of climate change research, and the possibility of a resources bonanza. As shown in this book, China’s growing strength at the poles will be a game-changer for a number of strategic vulnerabilities that could shift the global balance of power in significant and unexpected ways.

Having guested on tracks by dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man, London-based garage duo Gorgon City, and progressive house trio Raized by Wolves, Anne-Marie caught the attention of Brit and MOBO award winners Rudimental. She was featured alongside Dizzee Rascal and Will Heard on two tracks from their second album, 2015’s We the Generation, and spent two years touring with the band, playing some of the world’s biggest stages and best-known festivals.

Like her music idols, Anne-Marie is unabashedly herself on her record, which boasts upbeat pop anthems over dance-based production, hints of hip-hop and dancehall, and lovably blunt lyrics. She tells off a lover for sneaking around with someone else, she warns an admirer to stay in the friend zone and she professes self-love. It’s all autobiographical. All of that stuff you hear on my album is true to my life,” she says.

Anne Marie McElwee has been working for the Dean’s Office since 2005. Her current responsibilities as Administrative Assistant include assisting the deans with their website, Customs, summer communications, tutoring program, fellowships, the awards assembly and is an officer with the Staff Association.

These are not songs for sofa sobbing sessions. They are songs for Jägerbombs and sticky-dance-floor exorcisms. But even these are meant to help fans, says Anne-Marie, who is a few days off turning 27 when we meet. All her exes have cheated on her, she says, and at the time she could not tell them to do one as forcefully as she does in the songs. That has changed. Now, I’m like: ‘Don’t fucking talk to me,’” she says in a withering Essex accent. But before I wasn’t like that, so that was hard for me to get out of and become who I am. That’s why I try and tell people, ’cause I’ve gone through that experience,” she says, sighing.

The accolades are well-deserved; Anne-Marie’s live show is a delight that lets her down-to-earth persona shine through. Best of all, her voice is even more welcoming live than it is on record — all low-key charisma and warmth that brings nuance and depth to her songs.

Pop albums seem as relevant to the playlist era as diesel to an electric car and the length of time it has taken to make Anne-Marie’s may suggest it was low on the list of priorities for her label, Asylum. Why focus on an album that will inevitably include some filler when the singles are so ironclad? But she says she is pleased it has taken so long. As a teenager, she did musical theatre, became a world karate champion and did not like pop. It was not until the end of college, when a songwriter affiliated with Elton John’s Rocket Record Company asked her to sing on his demo, that she understood you could write the songs”, she says.

Nashville Symphony performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 15 in B-flat major, a work that is both playful and fiery in equal measure. Pianist Anne-Marie McDermott,…mostly emphasized the concerto’s brilliant side during her performance…Yet there was also warmth and immediacy in her playing, especially in the lyrical slow movement. Indeed, she played this movement with unfailing concentration, which kept the audience riveted even when one patron inadvertently smashed a drinking glass or plate on the floor.

Sheeran’s songwriting is just one of the things Anne-Marie admires most about him. Lyrics are such an important thing to me as an artist,” she says. Anne-Marie (full name Anne-Marie Nicholson) is a British singer-songwriter.

It was a privilege to listen to Oomen perform some of her literary works. Upon introduction, I was instantly in awe. Her voice was genuine, and she relayed so much passion through her writings. Oomen read from her memoir Love, Sex, and 4H.” I liked how she used specific voices within her literature and during her performance. Each author has a voice”, yet Oomen clearly has many; one for each character. Her inflections and silent pauses presented as if she was reading each piece like a poem. Also, in my Creative Writing class, we have read From a High Place” and Keep Clear of Me.” Both I fell in love with their prose. Through her writings which express a humble and poetic outlook, Anne-Marie Oomen has inspired me to continue to write. I cannot be more grateful.

Shooting onto the pop scene with her debut single Alarm” 2016’s biggest-selling debut single release after a plethora of early internet buzz, Anne-Marie followed-up with her one million-selling and UK Top 10 hit Ciao Adios” last year: the official video is nominated for ‘Best Video’ at this year’s BRIT Awards and marks her fifth BRIT nomination to date. Showcasing her versatility and as a special Christmas treat to fans, Anne-Marie gave us an emotional masterclass and a taste of her highly-anticipated debut album with her timeless track Then” with an accompanying performance video.

Six days after the terrorist attack at the Bataclan in Paris in November 2015 , the singer Anne-Marie was due to play the venue with the dance act Rudimental The news poleaxed her. It really just fucked me up,” she says. I was in bed for three days and I could tell I was dealing with it differently to everyone else.” Other people’s emotions had always had a strong effect on her and the problem continued; the Grenfell tower fire last summer broke her for a week. She had always thought that she might have bipolar disorder, but a visit to a therapist gave her a different verdict. They told her she was, in fact, an empath (or, according to the psychologically recognised term, a highly sensitive person”).

She credits Christina Aguilera, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and Alanis Morissette with making music that helped me as a girl growing up,” and says she hopes her debut album will do the same for young girls when it comes out later this year.
