BISHOP BRIGGSBack in 2016, Bishop Briggs tore through the alt-pop scene as if a flash fire — sudden and all-consuming, and yet slightly mysterious, blazing up the charts only to leave her listeners still sifting through the dust. This is me now: a lot less eye makeup, and happy! I love 90s style which you can see here, and I’ve really been getting into ath-leisure too. This picture was actually taken backstage when I was supporting Coldplay at the stadium in Dallas, which was the biggest show I played with them. I don’t think I’ll ever forget this moment because it was so surreal, but at the same time it was something I always dreamed would happen. I felt myself physically gulp when I first saw the stage and the set-up, but the goal is always the same for me: to connect with the audience, and just to be as authentic as I can be. So I just focus on what the songs mean to me and hope it goes well when I’m out there.

In the meantime, expect the creativity, performances and songs to keep flowing like a river. But Church of Scars was also culled from the relationships she’s forged and broken throughout her whirlwind rise — beginning with, as many great albums do, a breakup.

Since the arrival of their debut single Free Animal,” alt-pop duo Foreign Air has enjoyed a meteoric rise as one the more recent buzziest new acts, with Pigeons & Planes dubbing them one of “20 Artist About To Blow”, cracking Spotify’s Viral Top 20 Chart, and earning spins from Beats 1’s Zane Lowe, KCRW, and SiriusXM Alt Nation. The pair ended 2016 with the release of their four-track EP “For The Light” which has surpassed over 13 million streams on Spotify.

Briggs, 26, first performed the tune live at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles in May, a month after Church dropped. She wasn’t even sure if she was going to release the track and was a little nervous about testing it out publicly. When ET chatted with Briggs ahead of her set at the 2019iHeartRadio ALTer Ego concert at The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Saturday, the catchy anthem to true love in all its iterations had already been gaining fans on the airwaves, the new sound helping her find a slightly different footing.

Bishop Briggs is a Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter of dark pop. Born Sarah Grace McLaughlin, she was briefly known as BISHOP before reverting to the full form of her branding inspiration, her family’s hometown of Bishopbriggs, Scotland, in order to avoid confusion with a heavy metal band of the same name.

Started off with Jax Anderson, which had some good songs, but would’ve been better if she had more effects. Then Miya Folick, which I felt was a combination of Chrissy Hynde & the lead singer of The Cranberries. She had some effects, but I guess God Save The Queen-Bishop Briggs was the heavy hitter with a digital wall, that accentuated her incredible voice range.

Following up on the resounding success of “Wild Horses,” Bishop returns with “River,” a searing and cathartic track that sets the tone for her forthcoming debut EP. With more new material and live performances on the way, Bishop is poised to be one of 2016’s biggest breakout artists.

Bishop Briggs, whose real name is Sarah McLaughlin, is a Scottish singer who has been performing since she was a kid. Briggs rose to fame off of her hit track River” in 2017, which would later be featured on her debut album, Church Of Scars. River” would go on to become platinum certified and is still Briggs’ most well known track to date. The singer is known for her strong vocals and songwriting, with most of her music’s production combining both acoustic and electronic elements. Briggs’ emulates many of sounds that are popular today, while also adding her own twist into the mix. After the success of her debut album, Briggs has created a strong fan base for herself and is starting to make waves in the mainstream.

The director behind the music videos is Jungle George. He is an artist and someone who isn’t afraid of mixing darkness with art. Thankfully I don’t think you can be creative without being free. Bishop Briggs performs “River” live at Indie88 in the Collective Arts Black Box.BISHOP BRIGGS

Born in London to Scottish parents, Bishop Briggs grew up in Japan and Hong Kong. Days after graduating high school, she moved to Los Angeles where, after years of performing at any venue that would have her, she was discovered in a small hole-in-the-wall by a former-A&R rep and the rest was history.

Editor’s Note: Sometimes a plan comes together, and it’s beautiful to see. Last night at Boston’s House of Blues, Bishop Briggs made no secret of her excitement and enthusiasm over her headlining status after years of being the opening act. And the British singer, songwriter, and musician born Sarah Grace McLaughlin earned every letter of her name appearing up top on the marquee. Briggs rolled into town previewing her forthcoming album Champion, out November 8, which includes a mad-stomp of a single called Jekyll & Hide”. Last night’s show was a pure showcase of alt-pop in 2019, with Los Angeles’ Miya Folick and Detroit’s Jax Anderson setting the tone. Vanyaland’s María Alejandra Mats was on Lansdowne capturing evidence of all, and you can scan through her full gallery below.

Last month Bishop Briggs shared the ultimate breakup anthem in her new single “Tattooed On My Heart,” and now she’s gifted us with a powerful live video showcasing her, two backup singers, and a keyboardist performing a stripped down version of the song. The singer-songwriter wrote a statement about the song, which was written about her ex-boyfriend.

There’s been a lot of build up around the debut album of Sarah Grace McLaughlin, known to the music world as British-American singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs. Briggs has been releasing singles for a few years now, steadily building a following via streaming platforms and Shazam. Before the release of Church of Scars, Briggs released two self-titled E.P.s, resulting in over 400 million global streams and features in MTV’s Scream tv series, Fifty Shades Freed, and an Acura commercial that gained her significant notoriety. Early acclaim earned her comparisons to artists like Adele and an opening spot on a Coldplay tour.

Ironically all the music I release is private,” she says, but it never has the lightness that this track has and funnily that felt more vulnerable.” And by the way, by lightness, she means a love story that includes zombies, the apocalypse, and black magic.

So, what else do you need to know about Bishop? She writes most of her own songs, can play the piano, and according to her Instagram she is in a relationship. She is currently dating the lead vocalist of indie rock band Sir Sly Landon Jacobs. “Looking goofy next to pretty flowers a a pretty artist,” her BF recently captioned a photo of the couple.

It’s Bishop Briggs’ second single, and is her first song to rank on the US Alt and US Hot Rock charts. To promote the track, Bishop performed River” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Soulful singer and songwriter of dark electro-pop, with a stage name borrowed from her family’s hometown of Bishopbriggs, Scotland.

For example, with Drake, when he put out ‘Energy’, that wasn’t written during the Degrassi days, that was written when he felt betrayed, once he got money. Something about that as a listener gives you the feeling that you’re getting an insight about him as a human, which is what music should be, but there’s also such an opportunity to hide behind your music as well and to hide behind your poetry and metaphors. In the course of writing the album, that’s what I really tried to change about my writing. To be more direct. The most recent song that got submitted to the album is ‘Water’. That was my most direct song ever and I hope I continue to do that. To push myself to the point where I’m afraid that it is too obvious what experience or person I’m talking about.

It’s been an interesting year for Bishop Briggs. She spent last summer opening for Coldplay, and now she is touring with Austin-by-way-of-Iceland band Kaleo. Before her Twin Cities show, Bishop Briggs stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Mac Wilson.
