Tootsie’s asked Janson to finish the rest of the night. After that, he played the bar every day for almost a year. The next day, his acoustic set started at 10 a.m. When the 2 p.m. singer didn’t show up, Janson got that spot. The 6 p.m. talent was a no show as well, and Janson got that gig, too. But there was a catch. He had to have a band. He lied and said he did, then rushed out the back door to the alley — the same one he was kicked out of days before. He quickly threw together a band from a group musicians who’d just got off their mid-day shifts at other bars and were milling about. The group was back on stage within 15 minutes.

Man did Music Row in Nashville turn in a whole slew of stinkers this year, setting new lows for the substance, and non-country-ness of country” songs in 2017. This year was a great example of how you should never think it can’t get any worse, because it can, and did, and by a long stretch.

Chris Janson gave a start to his career when he wrote and recorded duets with Holly Williams on June 2009. In 2009, he joined BNA Records. In April 2010, he released his debut single called ‘Til a Woman Comes Along’.

Twelve new tracks show off the contrasting shades of Janson’s world. Both a restless ball of energy and a dedicated husband and father, his new tunes bound between jacked-up enthusiasm and heartfelt tenderness. Rafter-shaking electric guitars weave in and out of twangy, pure-country vocals, while homespun hooks and acoustic melodies bring soaring themes of love, life, and legacy down to earth.

Unbeknownst to him, Janson was building a following from Music Row. Within six months, publishers and songwriters were flocking to watch his show. Chris Janson on the red carpet at Music City Center before the start of the 51st annual CMA Awards Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 in Nashville, Tenn.

Chris Janson is not your typical country artist. He operates on a totally different wavelength, and with his second album, Everybody, we’re all getting tuned in! Both a crowd-pleasing fixture on the historic Grand Ole Opry and a viral hitmaker, he’s been straddling the divide between country’s past and future.

Born in Perryville, Missouri, Chris Janson is a country music singer and songwriter from Nashville. Janson released two EPs before signing with Warner Brothers Records in 2015. His first album with Warner Brothers, Buy Me a Boat, peaked at No. 4 on the US country charts in late 2015. The album produced three charting singles, including the 2x certified platinum “Buy Me a Boat” which peaked at No. 2 on the US country and Canadian country charts. In 2017, Janson released Everybody which peaked at No. 7 on the US country charts. Singles from the album, “Fix a Drink” and “Drunk Girl,” were both Top 10, certified Gold hits. “Buy Me a Boat” won iHeartRadio’s Country Song of the Year award in 2016, and the video “Drunk Girl” won the ACMA for video of the year in 2019. Meanwhile, Name On It” claims a perfect night in the name of true love, sharing the feel of a romantic radio hit with Little Bit of Both.” That one’s drenched in flirtatious fun and a strutting horn section – a career first that fits even better than he imagined.

Buoyed by lead single, Good Vibes,” which is currently No. 11 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, Real Friends takes its name from Chris’ numerous cohorts that contributed to the album in the form of songwriters (Ashley Gorley, Rhett Akins, David Lee Murphy), producers (Tommy Cecil, Zach Crowell, Brock Berryhill), collaborators (Blake Shelton) and more.

I saw Chris at the Silver Legacy in Reno last night. It was an amazing show. He really makes the whole audience feel like they’re part of the show. He winds you up with his enthusiasm, and really makes you consider how blessed we all are.

Chris Janson graduated high school, packed his green Monte Carlo and made the four-hour drive to Nashville. He was 18 in the summer of 2004, and the Perryville, Mo., native had never been to a big city. People in his hometown didn’t go to college – they went to work. Janson decided music was his job.

Either you jump in, or you jump off,” shrugs Jennifer. We made a choice to just go for it and trust in the beginning, but now we have earned real love and respect for each other as well. We’re basically married-times-three,” she laughs, and the other two women join in, voices in harmony once more.

Three of the most promising male artists in the mainstream are William Michael Morgan, Jon Pardi, and Mo Pitney. If there’s a traditional country insurgency looming in the wings, it might be carried on their backs. But with so many albums getting delayed, the big question was if any of them would see a proper album release, or be stuck in limbo like so many other artists. Luckily, there’s been some movement.

Oh man are these some stinkers. Not only does an elite and highly-trained group of mainstream country artists seem to be like devoted experts at defining new lows for the genre, in 2017 the amount of non-country-ness of some of these country” songs is so off the charts, it’s like they’re purposely challenging each other.

Moving to Nashville was a bold move. Raised in a hardworking, blue collar society, everyone from Janson’s hometown went straight to work after high school, but his dream would take something more. He showed up to the big city with whatever he could pack in his green Monte Carlo and began the job hunt.

Show was ok. No opening act, which was fine. Show scheduled to start at 8 p.m. and started around 8:30 p.m. Not a bad thing. Took that long to get a drink. My biggest issue with the show was mainly all the talking. Chris Janson would play maybe two (2) songs and then go into some blah blah blah talking and that kind of killed the show for me. Definitely not the most entertaining concert I have seen. Probably would avoid seeing him again if given the opportunity and will just listen to his songs on the radio. Less commentary.

Janson, who also has an electrifying stage show (think of a redneck Mick Jagger), has plenty of tempo songs about good times and tapping kegs, but he’s proud that he now has a tempo love song to fit into his mix.
