Free GuyThe first trailer and poster for Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming movie Free Guy were released yesterday, giving us the first look at Reynolds as Guy, a non-player character in the open-world video game Free City, which was based on a combination of Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite The movie also stars Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi. Her first appearance? It’s a butt shot, at a minute into the three-minute trailer. Then she, the only woman in the trailer, delivers not one, but two sex jokes. Is that a Glock in your pocket?” Comer asks as she straddles Reynolds’ character. It’s two Glocks,” he replies, as she reaches down his waist to grab the guns. Reynolds yelps, Oh!” as if she grabbed his penis instead. Groan. She also tells him to enjoy his lifetime supply of virginity” when he decides to be the good guy.” Groan again.

Directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum”), his film will showcase how an NPC bank teller called Guy, played by Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool”), will discover he is just a background character in the fictional video game, Free City.

That desire to create something original also reflects in the film, and in the next scene we see Millie and Keery’s Keys, her old programming partner, reunite to realize that the code they created together was stolen and implemented in Free City — and it worked. Turns out Taika Waititi‘s Antoine, the morally dubious owner of Free City, stole their code.

Levy also serves as a producer via his 21 Laps shingle, joined by star Ryan Reynolds via Maximum Effort and (The CW’s Arrowverse maestro) Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, fulfilling a multiyear deal signed by his Berlanti Productions. Adam Kolbrenner will also produce.

Get ready to feel slightly bad about the hours you’ve spent slaughtering video game characters. At Comic Con Experience Brazil, Ryan Reynolds debuted the first trailer for what he called my favorite movie I ever made,” his upcoming new action comedy Free Guy.” Watch it here right now.

If sarcasm will get anyone anywhere, then only Ryan Reynolds can make it happen. And so he shills merchandise while his co-stars pretend to be aghast, try to talk some sense into him, and generally play up the awkward vibe. Obviously, Disney’s got to be aware of Reynolds’ shtick, and is fine with it, unlike when Kurt Sutter got fired from Mayans M.C. because he ruffled a few mouse ears” by popping some bad anti-Disney jokes in a script. Whereas Reynolds’ self-aware shilling seems pretty unoffensive, honestly, and like part of his film’s planned promotion. We’ll see how Deadpool fares, though.

Hugh Jackman took to his official Instagram account to share a fan-made version of the Free Guy poster created by artist ,” which features the former Wolverine actor as a replacement for Ryan Reynolds. The fan-made image also features a few nods Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming Netflix film 6 Underground and Hugh Jackman’s The Laughing Man Cafe and Foundation.

So, this looks fun enough! We guess that it’s good that Disney already owns this film so that they wouldn’t have to sue somebody for ripping off Wreck-It Ralph, but this looks like a perfectly cromulent Ryan Reynolds movie. It’s amusing (and somewhat terrifying) that Reynolds is already settling into his Court Jester position within Disney, given that pre-footage title card ragging on the Mouse’s remakes this year, and it seems like it’ll be a bellwether as to how the Deadpool franchise — and the actor’s smart-ass persona — transitions to a studio who famously hates humor about its properties that isn’t brand-friendly.

The story concept also borrows from another obvious source, since this basically looks to be The Lego Movie but with video games – even some of the shots of Reynolds waking up in bed are curiously similar to the Lego film. Free Guy” opens in theaters on July 3, 2020.

We can probably expect Ryan Reynolds to promote the blazes out of Free Guy before its July 3, 2020 release. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reynolds tapped his best frenemy Hugh Jackman for more “feud” posts in the months ahead. Hopefully Blake Lively also gets in on the act, since she’s pretty good at promotion too , and maybe Reynolds can use his viral marketing skills to help promote her January 31 movie The Rhythm Section.

A bank teller discovers that he’s actually an NPC inside a brutal, open world video game. Free Guy arrives in theaters July 3rd of 2020 from 20th Century Fox. Channing Tatum, Utkarsh Ambudkar of Brittany Runs a Marathon, and Joe Keery co-star in the film.

What if you were able to break the boundaries of the role society placed you in? And what if you were, also, literally, a video game character? And what if you were also played by Ryan Reynolds in a new motion picture? Wait. Hang on. This metaphor has fallen apart.

Once again, the fans at CCXP proved that they are the world’s most passionate fans as they erupted with off-the-charts applause when Free Guy director Shawn Levy and actors Ryan Reynolds and Joe Keery took the stage to talk about the 20th Century Fox action-comedy about bank teller who realizes he is a background character in an open-world video game called Free City where has been robbed every single day for 27 days.

Free Guy” is about a man, played by Reynolds, that has spent his life as a bank teller who is just a background character in a video game. The trailer shows that Reynolds’ character decides one day to step out of his background role and become the hero, in a world seemingly dominated by crime and violence.

While Guy might not be quite as prepared to become a superhero as Wade Wilson, based on the trailer for Free Guy, it seems like Reynolds’ character will have just as much humor, wit and slightly-nauseating action sequences to tide audiences over as they wait for Deadpool 3 to be released.

The trailer kicks off with a joke at Disney’s expense, promising that the film comes from the studio that brought you ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Aladdin,’ ‘The Lion King,’ twice.” From there, we see Reynold’s unnamed Guy waking up from a good night’s sleep and start getting ready to head to his job as a bank teller. As we leave his apartment we see his city is plagued with constant, cartoonish violence which Guy and his fellow happy citizens treat as totally normal.

As the character (Ryan Reynolds) discovers in the film’s first trailer, released Saturday, he’s not just a happy-go-lucky bank teller, but a non-playable character (NPC) in an open-world video game. Programmed to get shot at, blown up, and kicked around by gamers, Guy rebels against his assigned role, linking up with other players and becoming an accidental hero in the process.

Free Guy” is also locally tied in terms of its cast. Keery was raised in Newburyport before being cast in Stranger Things,” which Levy executive-produces for Netflix. Kostek, meanwhile, grew up in Connecticut before becoming a New England Patriots cheerleader; she’s also the long-time girlfriend of retired Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski.

It turns out he’s a non-playable character in an open-world video game called Free City that’s on its way to being canceled. Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Night at the Museum) directed the movie from a story by Matt Lieberman (The Addams Family 2019). Lieberman co-wrote the script with Zak Penn (Ready Player One).

During that panel, Fox also screened a number of clips from the movie, including the one that precedes the “great guy” exchange between Guy and Comer’s in-game avatar, Molotov Girl. Free Guy hits theaters July 3, 2020. A bank teller discovers he is a background character in an open world video game called Free City that will soon go offline.

The Free Guy movie trailer is released during the film’s CCXP panel, revealing Ryan Reynolds as an NPC in a video game who gains sentience. The first trailer for Ryan Reynolds ‘ Free Guy ” premiered Saturday at the CCXP convention in Brazil.

The film’s main cast is rounded out by Joe Keery , Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Lil Rel Howery. Ryan Reynolds stars in Free Guy. Free Guy opens in theaters on July 3, 2020. Directed by Shawn Levy from a story by Matt Lieberman and a script written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, Free Guy stars Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Taika Waititi.

The studio dropped its first full-length trailer Saturday, showing Reynolds’ character Guy working as a bank teller before discovering the truth and deciding to become the hero of his own story. It might not see Ryan Reynolds slipping back into Deadpool ‘s threads, but from the looks of the first trailer for Free Guy , we can expect plenty of the meta quippery he’s all but turned into a personal brand.

The Deadpool actor told the crowd, We really wanted to bring to the world a modern day Back to the Future for modern generations.” According to the Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds cited Will Ferrell’s character in Elf and Petter Sellers in Being There as points of reference for his videogame character.

Just stepping out on the sidewalk every morning is a perilous task if you’re a dazed denizen of Free City. It’s a morbid, key component of Grand Theft Auto games that Free Guy seems to have incorporated flawlessly into the story. It doesn’t matter if a player in the game is joy-riding or being chased by the cops, bystanders are butchered.

Ryan Reynolds plays the smiling, blue-shirt main character guy Guy. Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), seen in the trailer wearing a black wig, is his co-star in the film. The movie also features Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect), and Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows). If this group is even half as funny together in the film as they have been in the movie’s viral ads, it should be hysterical.

However, during a bank robbery, Guy wonders if there’s more to life than just being robbed and narrowly avoiding death day in, day out, and decides to try and stop the robbery. He succeeds, and steals the robber’s sunglasses — turns out, he killed a real gamer’s avatar and now can see the same heads up display IRL players do, plus all the power ups and health packs that were previously invisible to him. Cue a whole bunch of action, and some joking sexual tension with Jodie Comer’s character Molotov Girl (well, aside from her telling him to enjoy a lifetime of virginity”).

Ryan Reynolds plays a video game bank teller who becomes the hero in the first trailer for the action-comedy Free Guy. Ryan Reynolds signs on to star in 20th Century Fox’s Free Guy movie, with Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy attached to direct.

Movies inspired by videogames are often shit, but I do at least like the premise of this one. It’s a shame it seemingly devolves into another action movie where Ryan Reynolds plays Ryan Reynolds, but on the other hand I quite like Ryan Reynolds. What a conundrum! Taika Waititi is in it, too, ensuring that I’ll give it a watch.

Either way, I’m here for it. Free Guy is written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, is directed by Shawn Levy, stars Reynolds and Jodie Comer, and has Taika Waititi thrown in as a bonus, so you know it’s gonna be weird and funny as hell.

Right now, the movie doesn’t have too much competition at the box office, but that could change over the next few months. Free Guy is scheduled to open against Minions: The Rise of Gru, one week before the next The Purge movie, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife hits theaters. The other big movies scheduled for July include the Bob’s Burgers movie, Tenet with Robert Pattinson, Disney’s Jungle Cruise, and Morbius with Matt Smith.

In Free Guy,” a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. The film is produced by Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Adam Kolbrenner with Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, George Dewey, Dan Levine and Michael Riley McGrath serving as executive producers.

If you haven’t heard of Free Guy, the new blockbuster film will follow Reynolds as an office worker who one day realizes he’s actually a non-player character (the extra, unplayable characters in the background of a video game).

The CCXP panel for Free Guy takes place at 2 PM Eastern on Saturday, December 7th. The Free Guy trailer should arrive at some point after that, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled. The movie’s director Shawn Levy has said that he and Ryan Reynolds wanted to craft a story that is “a superhero origin story without the cape and tights and the IP.” Levy went on to say, “If you were living in a video game and could master the system, your powers would be limitless.” Guy may have some pretty significant powers in the movie.

As the Mariah Carey-soundtracked preview lays out, Reynolds’ generic Guy lives in a fictional world that’s half-Groundhog Day, half-Grand Theft Auto before he eventually turns the tables on the everyday bank heist and reluctantly takes over the role of protagonist thanks to a pair of special sunglasses.
