Chris Stapleton continues to hint that new music is coming in the near future. This year’s 10th Annual CMT Artists of the Year special highlights the entire year of country music, and honors this year’s artists: Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay, Kane Brown, Luke Combs and Thomas Rhett.
Chris Stapleton breaks the rules of popular country and music and still manages to sell out arenas. He’s a breath of fresh air, and so was his sold-out concert at Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre where Brothers Osborne opened the show. Read our review.
Chris has been an active member of the industry since the early 2000s. After moving to Nashville, Tennessee, he signed with the publishing house Sea Gayle Music as a songwriter.
As a vocalist, Stapleton sang lead in two bands before he started recording as a solo artist including a bluegrass ensemble from 2008 to 2010 called The SteelDrivers After that, he released his solo debut: the critically acclaimed studio album titled Traveller (2015), which reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and was certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His second studio album From A Room: Volume 1 was released in May 2017, and earned him a second CMA Award for Album of the Year and also a Grammy Award for Best Country Album From A Room: Volume 2 was released in December 2017.
Blessed with an otherworldly voice, Stapleton earned this respect in numerous recording studios and anonymous writing rooms on Music Row and on stage as a touring headliner and opener for the most popular acts in the genre.

Christopher Alvin Stapleton (born April 15, 1978) is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky, and grew up in Staffordsville, Kentucky, until moving to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2001 to pursue a career in music writing songs. Subsequently, Stapleton signed a contract with Sea Gayle Music to write and publish his music.
Old school country may be the album’s most obvious touchstone, but Price and her band incorporate 60’s and 70’s R&B into many of the arrangements here, fusing two of Tennessee’s greatest musical exports. The funky Do Right By Me” shimmies and grooves with Gospel legends The McCrary Sisters helping out on backing vocals, and the driving A Little Pain” gets an assist from sweeping orchestration by Memphis legend Lester Snell (the man responsible for the string arrangements in Shaft”).
Popular and clean-cut in his teenage years, Stapleton played several team sports at Johnson Central High School and graduated as class valedictorian in 1996. He went on to study engineering at Vanderbilt University in Nashville but soon immersed himself in the local music scene, and dropped out after one year.
Chris never has to perform alone, because his wife is always with him. That’s right, she’s in his band. Who is Chris Stapleton’s wife? Well, she’s Morgane Stapleton, who performs backup vocals and harmonizes perfectly with Chris. The duo has been inseparable on stage and off, after meeting in 2003 while they worked as songwriters together. The couple married in 2007 and have been going strong ever since. The blessings keep adding up for Chris, because the singer and his wife welcomed twin boys in 2018.

Grammy-winner Chris Stapleton is one of the hottest country artists around the Nashville scene today, and we’ve gone to great lengths to replicate his favorite amp and tones.
The two covers on the album are bona fide country music classics. Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove’s tune ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ is probably best known from the almost romantic version by George Jones, but Stapleton gives it a bold makeover. His bluesy rendition is as earthy as a 25-year-old single malt.
Chris Stapleton was nominated for 10 Grammy Awards and won five. In 2016, he won the Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance for the song “Traveller” and Best Country Album for the album of the same name on which it appeared. In 2018, he won the same pair of Grammy Awards, this time for the song “Either Way” and the album From a Room: Volume 1 as well as Best Country Song for “Broken Halos.” Including other major music awards, Chris Stapleton has received 85 nominations and 48 wins so far in his career.
