That’s really an album there. (His mom loves listening to her.) Now, Gunna’s hard work has paid off. Gunna followed up on the success of Drip Harder with the release of his debut album, Drip or Drown 2 , in February of 2019.

GunnaAs a kid growing up just south of Atlanta, rapper Gunna, a.k.a. Sergio Kitchens (born 1993), used to practice what he and his friends called six-month runs”: cut all extraneous spending for six months and save, save, save. Emerging through a smoked-filled stage, the two dripped in swag and performed Young Thug’s So Much Fun collaboration alongside a marching band of trumpets and gleaming lights. Oh, that’s bright.

Gunna has been played over 170 times on NTS, first on 7 July 2016. Gunna’s music has been featured on 148 episodes. It looks like the city of Chicago is honoring Gunna in a major way. The 26-year-old rapper will have his own day, “Gunna Day,” in Chi-Town.

Gunna takes AstroWorld with Travis Scott, Trippie Red, & Sheck Wes this Fall. He has been a close friend of Young Thug and signed to the rappers YSL imprint. On Friday, February 22, Gunna released his studio debut, Drip or Drown 2, via YSL and 300 Entertainment.

During a recent concert, Lil Uzi Vert was almost about to get the Da Baby” treatment, when his friend Gunna’s security bum-rushed him on stage during a recent performance in Finland.

As both are lovers of high fashion, it was only right that Moneybagg Yo and Gunna linked up for the flashy “Dior,” off Bag’s 43VA HEARTLESS project. The Atlanta native rides the icy piano keys for another swaggering assist. Even though it’s technically Bag’s record, Gunna is really the one setting the tone by handling the first half of the chorus and opening verse.

The seventh edition of Life Is Beautiful will bring three days of sunny, celebratory fun to Downtown Las Vegas this weekend. This year’s lineup features some of hip-hop’s hottest stars—from Friday headliner Chance the Rapper to Lil Wayne on Saturday to Post Malone closing out the festival on Sunday. And scheduled for Friday on the Downtown Stage is none other than Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, better known as Gunna.

Burna Boy will headline the Sept. 14 Afro-Carribean show, with support from openers Kranium and Koffee. Young the Giant will return to UB on Oct. 12 for an indie-rock showcase, with supporting acts to be announced. The final Nov. 8 concert will feature co-headliners and trap newcomers Gunna and DaBaby — both members of XXL’s 2019 freshman class.

One strength of the album is the ease of listening and consistency that a playthrough delivers, making it perfect for playing in the background of any relaxed situation. Gunna’s adherence to his melodic roots means fans of his early work will almost certainly appreciate the album, while those unimpressed with the simplicity of mumble rap may want to look elsewhere.

Ahead of So Much Fun, Young Thug released a music video for The London” which featured J. Cole and Travis Scott He also made an appearance on Post Malone ‘s recent single Goodbyes” So Much Fun is Thug’s first full-length solo project since Beautiful Thugger Girls, but he released an EP called On The Rvn last year, along with the YSL compilation Slime Language To promote that album, Thug sent our office a friendly snake named Digits,” and sent other snakes to Noisey, Mass Appeal, and The FADER.

Watch the interview below in its entirety where Lil Baby talks about the beginning stages in his music career. Lil Baby and Gunna have an admirable bromance, and the Quality Control rapper just revealed one reason why.

During a sit down with 16 Bars, the Atlanta rapper revealed that he used to pay his pal $100 to write his songs for him which helped develop his spitting skills.

The Young Thug influence is admittedly clear: while Gunna doesn’t have the same wizened vocal idiosyncrasies, he shares his rather disconsolate bearing. If you read the lyrics on their own, you’d think he was as triumphant as a turned-up pop rapper: it’s a roll-call of material success, including an endless stream of foreigns”, continuing the ongoing rapper fetish for non-US cars that must have General Motors’ marketing department covered in anxious Post-Its. But delivered in that plaintive tone, he suggests a man either dismayed at the spiritual void in his newfound wealth, or one damaged by the struggles that came before it. Sometimes a gangsta need a hug,” he admits on Who You Foolin’; We locked in the ghetto forever” asserts Lil Baby on Derek Fisher, despite having revelled in diamonds and cars at the start of his guest verse.

These tracks are delivered in the Atlanta style of obsessively repeated single melodies, whose seductive monotony enhances the sense of a downbeat quest for meaning. Gunna deploys another Atlantan innovation, the ad-libs of Migos where the final word of each line is emphatically repeated, but gives it a powerful spin. He stretches the ad-libs out and overlaps them, letting them spill into the next bar: the effect, as on the nominatively deterministic track Outstanding, is an impressionistic swim of words, further blurred by his smudged enunciation. Gunna is known for championing the slang term drip” to describe his ever-stylish garms; his delivery chimes perfectly with the aquatic metaphor.

In his latest album, Atlanta rapper Gunna provides a familiar throwback to his 2017 Drip or Drown EP. Released last Friday, Drip or Drown 2 is a sixteen-song project with features from Lil Baby, Young Thug and Playboi Carti. Gunna continues to deliver more of his patented, subtle orations over laid-back instrumentals with an emphasis on traditional Atlanta trap themes.

Georgia-born rapper Gunna, who’s on Young Thug’s YSL Records, will breeze through town on his Drip or Drown 2 Tour with opening support from D.C.’s Shy Glizzy.

Easy. He hit me up like, Yo!” Me and Thug was at his studio in Atlanta, matter fact. He was in LA. Bro, we got so many songs together—us three. That’s really an album there.

What makes these tracks stand out is both their variation in beats and the fact they feel reminiscent of Gunna’s previous projects, especially Drip Season 3” — arguably Gunna’s best and most popular project.

Gunna dropped his debut mixtape Drip Season in the autumn of 2016, with efforts Drip Season 2 and Drip or Drown following up in 2017. His most recent mixtape Drip Season 3 was released in early 2018 and peaked at 55 in the Billboard 200.

As you may expect from a Gunna project, Drip or Drown 2 does have its fair share of creative and interesting beats, with Who You Foolin” sampling a unique guzheng instrumental from Chinese singer Tong Li. For returning Gunna fans, the album is also chock-full of dynamic, hard-hitting bass rhythms that the MC is well known for rapping over.

In 2013, Gunna released the mixtape Hard Body under the name Young Gunna. Gunna was introduced to Young Thug through King Troup, a mutual friend and community figure who died in December 2015. Gunna later recorded “Floyd Mayweather” with Young Thug in 2016. Also in 2016, Gunna released his debut mixtape Drip Season through YSL Records. He released the mixtapes Drip Season 2 in May 2017 and Drip Season 3 in February 2018. In October 2018, he and Lil Baby released the joint mixtape Drip Harder, which peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. In February 2019, he released the album Drip or Drown 2.

As Young Thug’s protégé, and a force in the new wave of trap coming out of Atlanta, fans should not be surprised to find out that Gunna and Young Thug have a collaborative project ready and waiting to be released.

Gunna is a rapper and member of Young Thug’s YSL Label. Gunna dropped his Debut mixtape Drip Season in 2016, with Drip Season 2 following up in 2017. Since then he’s also dropped Drip Season 3 featuring big names like Lil Uzi Vert and Young Thug. He has also appeared on Young Thug’s projects JEFFERY and Beautiful Thugger Girls.

But this rapid growth has possibly led Gunna into a realm of clout privilege” that he hasn’t deserved just yet. One artist who has utilized his clout privilege is Drake. After taking years to gain global popularity, Drake is able to release projects like Scorpion” that are also filled with a mix of throwaway and memorable tracks.

The support is part of community-focused spirit that goes beyond helping out local rappers. This past holiday season, for example, the rapper held the first Gunna’s Great Giveaway , treating dozens of shoppers to gifts in his hometown. Gestures like these help keep him grounded in the face of jet-setting stardom. Even if he’s fond of rapping about his latest luxury-brand acquisition, Gunna’s greatest asset remains his relatability.

Gunna’s past projects have gained him popularity. The work produced within those projects deserve their praise and, ultimately, led him to where he is today. And now, he seems to be depending on this previously-earned glory to carry the success of his most recent album — without adequate tracks to back it up.

Over the past two years, Gunna has rapidly gained popular media attention from both fans and fellow artists alike. His Atlanta-inspired cadence is prevalent, and his pairings with Young Thug and Lil Baby have contributed to this rise to fame.

Gunna is not the first rapper to retreat into the warm cocoon of pure tones. He is a dutiful student of Young Thug’s non sequitur filigree , which dominates the sound of streaming and has been put to use by everyone from Post Malone to Lil Baby. But Gunna is preternaturally chill, almost koan-like in his delivery. His voice is whisper-sweet. He raps on beats as if lightly touching them, fearful that they might snap under too much force.

Gunna has a penchant for rapping over beats that include guitar, like on Richard Millie Plain,” but he doesn’t use them for rock scabrousness. Instead, they’re caressing, soft-edged beds, elegant accompaniment for a rapper who makes his points with textures more than words.

Drip Season is more like, I’m letting you know what I’m putting down for today’s style, right then. Drip or Drown is more like, I really do this for real—all year around. That’s why I’m taking it to a whole ‘nother level with this one. I’m going to make it more where people can see it instead of just hearing the music. I’m going to visualize everything. I want you to see what I see when I’m making the music.

The YSL Records protegé dropped a teaser for the next track early Tuesday morning (Sept. 10). As expected, the visuals are pretty lit. The Drip Too Hard” rapper gave an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look into what they are cooking up for fans. Unlike the tropical beach front of Surf,” Thugger and Gunna are going for a Mad Max-esque dark fantasy with lots of pyrotechnics.

Hot” comes off Young Thug’s album So Much Fun , which dropped in August. The album hit No. 1 on the RS Albums Chart the following week, earning nearly 150 million streams in its week of release. It marked an important moment of success for Young Thug, who also featured on Ed Sheeran’s Feels” from his No. 6 Collaborations Project earlier this year.

G: Working with Travis Scott was cool. It wasn’t my first time working with him. We did a collaboration last year on Young Thug’s album Jeffery”. The song was called Floyd Mayweather”. That was our first time working together. Then our biggest song to date was done 3 months ago (From September 10th, 2018). I went to Hawaii, we locked in and did the song then put it on his album ASTROWORLD.

Drip or Drown 2 will certainly be a welcome addition to hip-hop playlists over the next few months, especially for those appreciative of the subtle flows and trap beats constantly present. Gunna seems to play it safe with this release, providing similar music to that which has gained him considerable commercial and artistic success. Although this approach can lead to a lack of innovation and excitement, Gunna provides a powerful narrative on life in Atlanta and the music it continues to inspire. Drip or Drown 2 is a consistent, solid release that captures the current trap and mumble rap scene, but perhaps it does so too well.

None of the songs Gunna wrote for Baby were actually recorded. They have used more as reference tracks. But their Drip Harder collaboration project is a clear demonstration that Gunna is actually a pretty good teacher.

The ATLien has been riding high since the release of his first official studio album that landed him his first number-one record. Now, the YSL Records founder has another surprise that has fans hype: a teaser for the music video for Hot,” his joint single with label mate Gunna.

It’s safe to say that superstar Gunna ‘s career has taken off. The Atlanta rapper began his flirtation with music and rapping as a hobby in his early teens, which then kicked into high gear after meeting Young Thug in 2016. All it took was hopping on Thug’s track ” Floyd Merryweather ,” with Gucci Mane and Travis Scott for the flirtation to burst into a full-blown love affair, resulting in over 14 million monthly listeners and a fan base that includes A$AP Rocky, Drake, and Virgil Abloh.

Emerging through a smoked-filled stage, the two dripped in swag and performed Young Thug’s So Much Fun collaboration alongside a marching band of trumpets and gleaming lights. Oh, that’s bright.

We caught up with Gunna before the release of his debut album ‘Drip or Drown 2,’ and the Atlanta rapper is ready to conquer all of rap. Later, Young Thug and Gunna take the stage for a collaborative musical performance.
