22. After revealing in 2016 that she suffers from endometriosis, she underwent an undisclosed surgery in 2017 to lessen the pain caused by the disorder and announced on The Doctors in 2018 that she planned to freeze her eggs.

Instead of a viral flash of Internet lightning, Halsey, unfiltered and fast-talking, has been nurtured as an artist who could harness lasting loyalty online, not just one-off clicks. Now, with her nearly half a million followers on Twitter and more on Instagram contributing to the heavy lifting, the singer and her label — Astralwerks, an electronic imprint under Capitol Music — have set the stage for a potential mainstream breakthrough.

And despite the haters, it worked. Both of her albums — 2015’s Badlands and 2017’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom — went platinum, and teens the world over started dying their hair her trademark blue. Closer,” her collaboration with the Chainsmokers, topped the charts for 12 consecutive weeks, and Without Me,” a song about her breakup with rapper G-Eazy after getting cheated on in front of the entire world, like, a billion times,” became her first solo single to hit Number One.

Despite her troubled past, Halsey has been able to rise to prominence by posting her music to social media platforms like YouTube and mainly Tumblr. Since then, Halsey has released a total of two-full length musical offerings in Badlands (2015) and Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), both of which were reached commercial success.

Born and raised in Washington, New Jersey, Frangipane also spent time in neighbouring New York where she soon developed ties. During her early years the musician learned to play the viola, violin, and the cello before at the age of 14, pickiing up the acoustic guitar. Frangipane subsequently enrolled in community college studying songwriting and began to build a list of musical connections. In order to pay for her classes the singer-songwriter would perform all over the East Coast using various monikers, ultimately landing on the anagram of her name, Halsey.

On the 28th of February 2020, we will have the pleasure to welcome Halsey with her “Manic World Tour” for the first time in the Verti Music Hall in Berlin.

The new music video comes nearly a week after the announcement of her Manic World Tour. The trek will kick off in Madrid this February and make stops in Amsterdam, Paris, London and conclude in Manchester this March.

The alternative-pop artist released a visual for her next single, Clementine,” where she is seen dancing in an aquarium alongside her brother, Sevian Frangipane.

During the performance, the openly bisexual musician danced with her longtime backup dancer Jade Chynoweth to her smash-hit single WIthout Me. Halsey is living her truth – and not just as a wildly popular popstar who regularly sells out stadium tours.

13. After signing with Astralwerks, she released her first EP, Room 93, in October 2014, opened for Imagine Dragons on the North American leg of their tour in June 2015, and released her debut album, Badlands, on August 28, 2015. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Throughout her time in the spotlight, Halsey has been open about her life in a way that sometimes celebrities aren’t. She is openly bisexual, proudly biracial, and struggles with bipolar disorder. These identities mean that large groups of fans can relate to her, not only through her music but through who she is as a person.

Halsey’s debut studio album, Badlands (2015), was certified Platinum by the RIAA , along with four of its singles. In 2016, she rose to stronger prominence as a featured vocalist on The Chainsmokers ‘ single ” Closer “, which topped the charts of over fifteen countries and was later certified Diamond in the US Her second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), consisted of more “radio friendly” music than her previous releases. It topped the Billboard 200 and featured two US top-20 singles: ” Now or Never ” and ” Bad at Love “. Halsey’s upcoming third studio album, Manic , is expected to be released in 2020. Its lead single, ” Without Me “, became her first number-one track on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist.

As part of Sunday night’s In Memoriam tribute at the 2019 Emmy Awards , Halsey performed a version of Cyndi Lauper’s 1983 classic Time After Time,” over a montage of television stars who died over the past year.

This show was my 4th time seeing Halsey perform live in Minnesota, but there was something truly special about this go around specifically. Not only did Halsey herself KILL it, per usual, but the way the crowd responded to her was otherworldly. While I’ve seen Halsey in both big venues and small, this medium sized event was somehow the most massive AND most intimate thing ever. She’s a powerhouse through and through and genuinely cares about her fans.

I am not sure who to expect. During my cab ride through Los Angeles’s winding side streets, two songs come on the radio that sound like they have nothing in common: Eastside,” an electro-pop smash about puppy love, and Nightmare,” an alt-rock thrasher about punching mirrors and tasting blood. They both belong to one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. And I’m on my way to her house.

It’s no surprise that Halsey thinks one step ahead of potential detractors; like all the best pop stars, this former Tumblr teen has experienced fandom from both sides, having found early attention under her real name, Ashley Frangipane, while knocking out covers and parodies on social media. One successful video, The Haylor Song , pastiched Taylor Swift’s Trouble and centred on One Direction fans’ concerns about Harry Styles’ then-girlfriend.

The foundation, after all, was hers. In March, Halsey had her industry coming-out party at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Tex. But at an event all about manufacturing the appearance of buzz, Halsey’s needed no fluffing: Amid the label types, teenage girls stood rapt at the front of a small stage, many of them holding up cellphones and beaming the performance via video chat to tearful friends at home.

Her 5x Platinum hit Without Me” – included on Manic – spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in early 2019, marking her first solo single to reach the top spot. It now ranks as the longest-running Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit by a female artist of this century. She is the first artist since 2014 to simultaneously hold the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Song radio airplay chart. In March 2019, Halsey became the first artist in history to replace herself at No. 1 twice on the U.S. Pop Songs Airplay chart when Without Me” returned to No. 1, bumping Eastside,” her 2x Platinum collaboration with Benny Blanco and Khalid, from the top spot. Without Me” is the most-played song of 2019 at U.S. radio. She featured on BTS’ Platinum hit, Boy With Luv” and, most recently, alongside Future on Die for Me,” a track from Post Malone’s new album.

Or even be categorized at all. Identity is a tricky thing for anyone, but especially for a pop star whose personality tends to shift, she says, to match whatever get-up she’s wearing. I was talking to Dom the other day, and I was like, ‘When you’re laying in bed at night and you’re on tour and you miss me, how do you picture me? Do you picture me with short brown hair? Or long blond hair?’ And he’s like, ‘I don’t really know.’ ” And the thing is, Halsey doesn’t really know either. She can’t really picture what she looks like. And I’ve thought about that for a while, and I’ve been like, ‘Is that a good thing or a bad thing?’ Does that mean I have no sense of identity? Or is it a good thing I don’t limit my perception because I haven’t permitted myself to view myself as one thing, because I haven’t stayed one fucking thing long enough to be that?” She pauses, considering, waiting for an answer to present itself. But of course no answer does.

The musician’s big break came in 2014 when Frangipane uploaded the song Ghost” to her SoundCloud page. The track soon became popular online and caught the attention of a number of interested labels. The singer subsequently signed with Astralwerks who issued her debut EP Room 93” in October that year. Introducing the singer’s emotive vocal delivery and songwriting, reminiscent of British singer Ellie Goulding, the record catapulted Frangipane to online notoriety. Featuring the single Ghost”, the EP also spawned four accompanying videos, garnering significant attention on music video platforms.

This isn’t the only way she’s celebrating her birthday – she released new single ‘Clementine’ accompanied by a sweet video where she dances with her little brother, Sevan Frangipane, inside an aquarium.Halsey

Halsey is typically oppositional about the single’s prospects. Everyone thinks it’s going to be a cultural revolution, but I don’t think it’s that good,” she said plainly. As for Ghost,” which Astralwerks may yet push to pop radio, I’m so over that song,” she said, and it only made the album as one of her few concessions to the label.

On Sunday, Sept. 29 “Bad At Love” singer Halsey released a new music video for “Clementine” on her 25th birthday, and the premiere is a present to her fans. The singer and her brother Sevian dance in front of an aquarium exhibit in the music video, both wearing matching white jumpsuits printed with a clementine logo and Converse sneakers. Both siblings also have orange glitter makeup on for the routine.

Halsey is originally from New Jersey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, and first found her way into music by enrolling in a songwriting program while attending college. She began gigging and writing demos before being signed and releasing her first EP, Room 93, in 2014. The record won praise from critics and led her to support British indie band The Kooks on tour. She later went on to tour America with her American Youth US Tour in 2015 and performed with Imagine Dragons on their Smoke + Mirrors Tour. British singer Charli XCX , Canadian rapper PartyNextDoor and American singer Kehlani previously supported Halsey on her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom Tour in 2017 and 2018.

According to the singer herself, her fans ” want music that’s a bit more intelligent, which is why she thinks music that has straddled that line of being poppy in sound but a little alternative in lyrics appeals to them.” This shows what kind of fans Halsey has. They like music that’s catchy but also somewhat smart.

Later in the evening, Halsey treated fans to the live debut of her own new single — but not before taking a trip down memory lane To open her set, she threw it way, way back to her 2015 Badlands single “Gasoline”; a welcome surprise for day-one fans. Radio smashes “Bad at Love” and “Without Me” also made her short but sweet setlist, as did the feminist rager ” Nightmare” And to cap it off, Halsey performed ” Graveyard ” — a new single from her forthcoming album, Manic — for the first time, giving the vulnerable breakup song a jolt of energy onstage.

Halsey continues to push creative boundaries expanding her influence and impact beyond music. She wrote and delivered a speech at the 2018 women’s march advocating equality and she uses her voice to speak up for causes she passionately believes in including disenfranchised youth, women’s rights, mental health and the LGBTQ community, demonstrating that both she and her music can affect meaningful change. She also wrote and delivered the key note speech at Glamour’s 2018 Women of the Year event.

Yet every date on that spring 2015 run sold out in less than 30 minutes, and Halsey soon graduated to an arena tour, opening this summer for the million-selling rock band Imagine Dragons and often packing the front rows despite being first on the three-act bill.
