This, coupled with Bay pushing his own musical boundaries makes ‘Electric Light’, a new, progressive yet open & welcoming experience. There’s enjoying a song, and then there’s being moved by it, which is a whole other level of experience.

JAMES BAYJames Bay is “deep into writing” his third album. Bay says: I listen to a broad selection of music that inspired the first album. Fast-forward to the release of his much anticipated second album Electric Light. As well as giving us a record with a new feel, Bay also looks different and has had a lot of attention for the fact his trademark long hair and Fedora are now a thing of the past.

Absolutely. So much of that was about evolving as an artist and saying to myself and everyone else, ‘Chaos and The Calm’ is one part of what I am, but I want to express more. I want to express different sounds like an artist and go down different avenues creatively. I wanted to show different and more and other. I did all that. It’s still such a fresh thing, but the hunger for more new stuff is bigger than ever. Despite that album not being a year old, it felt ok and right to put this EP out.

It may be surprising to hear Bay list hip-hop and rap artists his inspirations, but he’s drawn in by their lyrical directness and honesty,” just as he is with acts from different genres. He hopes to do the same with his songs.

From the start, the singer was keen to impress on interviewers that he was a blues nerd”, whose trademark hat was, he insisted, not the result of a stylist’s ministrations, but a tribute to the similar headgear sported by US country-blues traditionalist Eric Bibb. One might reasonably assume, then, that Electric Light would arrive stripped of pop gloss and sporting an advanced case of the Take Me Seriouslies, but quite the opposite. The interviews to promote it have been big on vaulting commercial ambition. The trademark hat is gone and talk of Eric Bibb appears to have been banished: it’s all Frank Ocean this and Taylor Swift that.

You can hear nods to James Blake, Drake and, bizarrely, something of Macklemore in the piano and spoken word intro on In My Head”. A second interlude halfway through the album is more The Archers than anything else Bay might have been going for. Distorted vocals on songs like Stand Up” are unlikely to remind music fans of anything but Bon Iver.

Three-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated and BRIT Award-winning multiplatinum singer-songwriter James Bay will release his anxiously awaited second full-length album, Electric Light on Friday, May 18, 2018 via Republic Records.

The sense of fatigue is compounded by the production, which signposts its modernity by being incredibly busy: everything is amped with distortion and slathered with effects ranging from bursts of dubby echo to mournful James Blake-like vocoder, snatches of sampled vocals fly in and out of the mix; a plethora of sounds rumble in the background, half out of earshot. Sometimes the effect is thrillingly chaotic, other times it’s cluttered. There’s a moment during In My Head when squeals of electric guitar are fighting for space with sampled whoops and screams, brass, southern soul organ and our old friend the gospel choir. It’s hard to stop yourself adding to the sonic melee with a yell of oh, give it a rest”.

James Bay is important in the history of Canada as one of the most hospitable parts of the Hudson Bay region, although it has had a low human population. It was an area of importance to the Hudson’s Bay Company and British expansion into Canada The fur-trapping duo of explorers Pierre-Esprit Radisson and Médard des Groseilliers convinced the English Crown, primarily Prince Rupert of the Rhine, a favoured nephew of Charles I and cousin to Charles II , that a colonial enterprise in the north would yield wealth in minerals and fur. Des Groseilliers accompanied Captain Zachariah Gillam on the ketch Nonsuch and they jointly founded Charles Fort, the first European fur-trading post on James Bay.

Citing the likes of Prince and Frank Ocean as influences on Electric Light is confusing as the listener reaches the third or fourth track, as the sound and stylings on this album speak more of John Mayer and Fleetwood Mac. There’s a little of Prince in the sensuousness of certain songs, but Bay doesn’t possess that same crackling sexual energy as the Purple One; he’s more brooding, introspective.

This is a new era for the 27-year-old Brit, aesthetically and sonically, starting with his new single, Wild Love.” It’s his first original release since his 2015 debut, Chaos and the Calm, which earned him three Grammy nominations (including Best New Artist), a BRIT Award, and an opening slot on Taylor Swift‘s 1989 tour.

Tourism plays a significant role in the economy of James Bay, both because it hosts many tourist destinations and because it is home to the Ogden Point cruise ship terminal Many of Victoria’s key attractions are located in the neighbourhood including the Parliament Buildings , Royal BC Museum , Beacon Hill Park , Fisherman’s Wharf and many hotels and bed and breakfast establishments. Horse-drawn carriages and waterfront walkways also serve as a draw.

Human presence along the shores of the bay began after the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the last ice age , around 8,150 years ago. A variety of indigenous cultures have lived in this area. At the time of contact with Europeans, the indigenous peoples along both shores of the bay were ethnically Cree peoples.

Receiving the BRIT’s Critics Choice award in 2015, Bay has gone on to receive a win for Best Male Solo Artist at the BRITS, Best New Act and Best Solo Artist at the Q Awards, Most Performed Work at the Ivor Novello Awards and was nominated for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song and Best New Artist at the 2016 Grammy Awards.

I would love that my music was listened to and loved by so many people. In the fall of 2013, James Bay played an intimate gig in New York City as part of the CMJ Music Festival. He was just at the start of his career, performing for maybe a hundred or so people.

James Bay is hardly recognizable when he arrives for our interview. His hair isn’t shoulder-length anymore, it’s in a loose coif. His signature Panama hat is missing. He’s wearing a single, thin hoop earring, which is either new or just noticeable now that his locks are short. He looks edgy, dressed in all black—Burberry shearling jacket, jeans, and boots—as if he’s mourning his old persona while presenting a new one at the same time.

The most common access point for paddlers to this area is Moosonee, at the southern end of James Bay. A campsite at Tidewater Provincial Park provides large campgrounds with firepits and outhouses on an island across the river from the town. Water taxis will ferry people back and forth for about C$ 20 each. Many of these rivers finish near Moosonee, and paddlers can take the Polar Bear Express train south to Cochrane at the end of a trip. This train regularly features a ‘canoe car’ enabling paddlers to travel with their canoes.

The James Bay show originally scheduled at Theater of the Clouds at the Rose Quarter on October 15 has been rescheduled to March 30, 2019 and moved to the Arlene Schnitzer concert Hall. The times for the event remain at 7pm doors and 8pm show.

Coming off a BRIT Award win for Best Male Solo Artist and three 2016 Grammy nominations, singer-songwriter-guitarist James Bay conquered the States with his debut LP Chaos and the Calm, as well as making his Austin City Limits debut.

And he’s not wrong. After the smash success of his first album, Chaos And The Calm, in 2015, Bay is back with a new single, Wild Love”, which you can watch the video for below. And while the most obvious evolution of Bay is on the outside (more on this later), Wild Love” reveals a marked change in his music too. The sound of this older and wiser Bay is more electronic than his former stuff. Electric guitars and synthesisers feature heavily, not just on this record but throughout the new album, although that’s not to say that it lacks Bay’s signature rock ‘n’ roll spirit. As he puts it, the homemade electronic” vibe is smashed together” with influences from Blondie, Bowie and The Strokes.

Composed in East London’s Baltic Studios, Bay co-wrote and co-produced Electric Light with longtime friend and collaborator Jon Green and brought onboard Paul Epworth Adele, Florence and The Machine to add final production elements to the record. Watch the Wild Love” music video here. Across the globe it has earned widespread critical acclaim from NME, Forbes, Harpers Bazaar, Time, GQ UK, Rolling Stone, People, Clash, Billboard, and more.

His album Chaos and the Calm was the biggest-selling debut of 2015, selling 345,000 copies and earning the star Brit and Grammy nominations. Despite all the sonic innovation, fans of Bay’s first album will be pleased to hear he’s not lost his knack for big melodies and dramatic vocals.

Electric Light is a distinctively different-sounding album to Chaos And The Calm. James Bay’s debut studio album is called Chaos and the Calm. Monqui welcomes singer-songwriter James Bay to the Portland’5 Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 8pm, as part of his Electric Light Tour.

Aged 27, James Bay is pretty sure he’s in his fourth moon. I’m at a place now in the second half of my twenties where, for the first time, having made music my life’s work since I was 12, I can really look back and go, ‘Wow, what I’ve achieved is incredible’, but I’ve also grown from it,” says Bay. I feel a greater sense of having grown more than ever before.” To explain, the Brit Award-winning musician’s girlfriend and PA have both been reading The Women Who Run With Wolves. Hence Bay using the book’s take on luna cycles and the different stages of being to articulate the feeling that he has reached a seminal phase in his life.

JAMES Bay is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. Three-time Grammy® Award-nominated and Brit Award-winning multiplatinum singer-songwriter will be hitting the DPAC stage on March 5, 2019 as part of his Electric Light Tour.

James Michael Bay (born 4 September 1990) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. In 2014, he released his single “Hold Back the River”, which has been certified platinum, before releasing his debut studio album Chaos and the Calm (2015). The album went to number one in the UK and number 15 in the US. In February 2015, Bay received the Brit Awards “Critics’ Choice” award. At the 2016 Brit Awards he received the award for Best British Male Solo Artist. Bay also received three nominations at the 2016 Grammy Awards, for Best New Artist, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song. In May 2018, he released his second studio album, Electric Light.

Crucially – and appropriately – alongside this new sonic pallet, James Bay’s second album has a thread running right through its heart that examines and embraces the notion of unity. From the gospel flecked R&B hopscotch jam ‘In My Head’, via the imploring raw beauty of the anthemic ‘Us’, the breathless ticking golden transistor guitar pop of ‘Pink Lemonade’ and the chopped sonic blues behind the hip-swinging ‘I Found You’, this guiding sense of unity helps to navigate ‘Electric Light”s expanded horizons in a strong coherent direction.

An hour or so drive outside of London, at the point where the city’s vast swathes of suburbs become the green fields of the countryside, you’ll find Hitchin, home of the Rhythms of the Worlds Festival and hometown of 23-year-old singer-songwriter James Bay.

James Bay customized his new Epiphone Signature 1966” Century archtop with the same hand-wound pickup he uses in his vintage Century, a Kinman® “Sweet Neck” P-90 Hx Noiseless Single-Coil. Kinman® pickups are world renown for their incredible sonic palate and no hum” performance. Bay choose the Kinman for its classic P-90 tone and the additional reduction of hum necessary when playing the world’s biggest outdoor festivals and indoor stages. The Kinman® “Sweet Neck” P-90 Hx is the only P-90 style pickup currently in production that maintains the dynamic range and tonal characteristics of prized vintage Gibson P-90 pickups while providing hum free operation. The new 1966” Century’s Master Volume and Tone controls have Black Top Hat knobs with metal inserts and USA made CTS potentiometers.
