Sep 05, 2019 In a Q&A on Twitter earlier this week, Kelsea Ballerini revealed that her new single “homecoming queen?” is “the most emotional single she’s released,” and she wasn’t kidding. The the vulnerable song is the first taste of her upcoming third album, and also comes with a tear-jerking (literally) music video.
Ballerini met husband Morgan Evans while co-hosting the CMC Awards in Australia. While Evans hails from the land Down Under, he was living in Nashville and the pair soon began dating. Evans proposed on Christmas Day in 2016 and the couple tied the knot in Mexico in December 2017.
The album is a chronological story of my life over the last two years. It starts with a breakup. It starts really dark and angsty, and that’s the place I was in two and a half years ago when I was putting out my first single. Obviously, that’s something I chose not to show at that time. It feels freeing to tell everything that’s been happening.
Kelsea Nicole Ballerini (born September 12, 1993) is an American country music singer and songwriter. She released her first album The First Time in 2015, and her second album Unapologetically was released on November 3, 2017. She received a nomination for Best New Artist at the 2017 Grammy Awards. Ballerini’s two albums have accounted for seven charted songs on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. She has four No. 1 singles on the latter, starting with her debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It”, which made her the first female artist to send a debut single to the top of that chart since Carrie Underwood in 2006. It was followed by “Dibs” and “Peter Pan”, whose peaks also made her the first female country artist to send her first three singles to the top of that chart since Wynonna Judd. Ballerini’s fourth No. 1 single is “Legends”.
Ballerini and her songs channeled a range of emotions from sassy and defiant to reflective and lovestruck during her one and a half hour set, and she said she wanted her fans to feel it all. I’ve never been so proud to release anything and start a new chapter…here’s my heart in a song,” tweeted Ballerini on Friday.
We have 10 songs done, hundreds written, and we’re trying to figure what other colours and textures we need. There’s a song with horns, a song with a string quartet, two collaborations that are polar opposites, musically. I’m just having fun.
Still, Ballerini struggled with feeling accepted. In a candid discussion with radio host Bobby Bones on his podcast earlier this year, the singer acknowledged she was thrilled that radio embraced her so quickly, even though the success of her pop-country hits made her really not cool” among industry folks in Nashville.
Kelsea Ballerini just scored the highest debut of her career so far with her new single, ” homecoming queen? ” – but it sounds like we may have to wait a bit longer for more new music from the “Miss Me More” hit-maker.
Kelsea Ballerini is an American country singer-songwriter signed to Black River Entertainment in Nashville TN. She is the first female country artist to have three consecutive number one’s that they wrote off their debut album.
Four years later, when she was 19, Ballerini signed a publishing deal with Black River Publishing and a recording deal with Black River Entertainment later that same year. A debut single, “Love Me Like You Mean It,” appeared from the label in 2014; the song slowly became a big hit, reaching number five on the Billboard country singles charts and number one on its country airplay charts. A digital EP, simply titled Kelsea Ballerini, was released in November 2014, and as word about Ballerini spread, she was named one of 2014’s Next Women of Country by CMT and appeared on the Grand Ol’ Opry for the first time on February 13, 2015.
The songstress’ “The Miss Me More Tour” kicks off at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center this Thursday, April 11, with Brett Young. Special guest Brandon Ratcliff will also be at the Salisbury show. Ayden, who has underwent multiple surgeries since being diagnosed when he was 3, shared his passions with Ballerini and told the Grammy-nominated songstress he was learning to play electric guitar.
Ballerini’s tour is named after her hit song “Miss Me More,” a top 10-climbing, GOLD certified single that is her fastest rising to date, according to a news release. Fans may also know her from her collaboration with The Chainsmokers‘ “This Feeling,” the duo’s first time releasing a song with a female country singer.
I love every bit of my life. The fact that I get to tour and have a song that goes on the radio is the coolest thing in the entire world and because of that I went through this season where I didn’t allow myself to have a bad day,” says Ballerini.
Ballerini, now a two-time Grammy nominated artist, moved to Nashville with her mom when she was only 15 to pursue a music career. She dedicated “In Between,” a song off her latest album, to her mom, who was in the crowd Thursday night for the three-hour show, along with Ballerini’s Australian singer-songwriter hubby Morgan Evans.
Honestly, I got so used to the opening slot in this last year doing two back-to-back, Keith Urban to Kelly. I got used to the challenge of going out to a crowd that maybe knows Peter Pan” and Yeah Boy” but doesn’t know my full set and definitely doesn’t know my albums. So me and my band got really comfortable with that challenge every night and walking offstage, feeling like, Alright, we hopefully got some new fans tonight.” The first night of this tour, walking out to an arena of people that know the album cuts, they know the songs I’ve teased on my Instagram, they know all of that and they’re so invested in the story, and they’re so invested in my life and what I’m going through — that feels different.
Constantly growing, yet staying true to who she is — it’s the epitome of Ballerini’s work ethic. She may be touring the country with artists like Rascall Flatts and Thomas Rhett, but she’s still ordering chicken nuggets for every meal (it’s her drunk and sober food of choice, of course).
The Awards Breakfast will also feature Music Biz President James Donio’s President’s Address, updating attendees on the state of the industry, highlighting Music Biz’s top initiatives of the past year, and detailing what to expect from the Association in 2018 and beyond. Music Biz Board Chairman Fred Beteille of Facebook will recognize the 2018-2019 Music Biz Board of Directors and announce the Scholarship Foundation Class of 2018.
While it’s unclear when fans will get their first taste of Ballerini’s next project, it’s apparent that it will be worth the wait. OCALA, Fla. — Knoxville native and country music star Kelsea Ballerini surprised a special fan this week with a gift she hopes keeps him inspired to make music.
On the latest episode of the Tone Countrycast , Ballerini revealed that a follow-up pop collaboration will appear on her third album. Rick Froio, Gordon Kerr, Kelsea Ballerini, Mike Wilson and Bill Macky pose with Ballerini’s plaque celebrating her five No. 1 songs in four years.
Did you know? Ballerini became only the fifth solo female country music artists to score back-to-back No. 1 singles when “Dibs” and then “Peter Pan” reached the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
The guys who produced my album, Forest Glen Whitehead and Jesse Lee, are so specific about the sounds and the feel that they put on my songs. And I feel like their production style’s a lot of the reason that my songs sounded different enough to be played on the radio. And so my band has had this really fun job of finding those sounds and those elements that are in the production and mimicking them live, but with their own style, which has been really cool.
Kelsea Ballerini: Honestly, this is the one song that I’ve written by myself in the last two years, so it’s really special to me. I wrote it so quickly. I think sometimes when you go back to your hometown after your life has changed so much, you realize that some things don’t change — and some things do. And I was one of the things that did. Part of that was really bitter, and part of that was really sweet. I think it was just one of those songs where I realized that I’d changed a lot.
It was awesome. There was this big conversation about the lack of women in country music, and I think that it’s starting to turn around. I think you see a lot of women coming up right now, and it’s exciting to see that change. But at the time it was really nice and very humbling to be honored as a new woman in music in general. At the time, there were a lot of men on the radio. A big trend at the time was bro country,” and naturally women don’t fit into that. But I think the trend is now kind of gone.

I’ve said it a million times, but I really do feel like anyone who has a respect and a love for country music — if you’re an artist, or even as a songwriter, you want your story to land you on that stage at some point. When I first signed my record deal, that’s what I told the label: This is on the very, very tippity-top of my goal list. I want to play on that stage.” The Opry invited me to sing there before I had a hit… I don’t even think Love Me Like You Mean It” was Top 40. They invested in me early and allowed me to be a part of that history. So anytime I was able to be on the stage, I was on the stage. Every time I sang there, I covered a classic. It was always really important to me, to honor it as much as they would let me. I’m very aware that my sound is not necessarily considered traditional country music and the fact that they still believe in my roots and believe in the heart of my music, which will always be country — and still include me in that family — is really telling.
I hadn’t. As soon as I got invited, they told me that Carrie was going to induct me. I’m so glad they didn’t make that a surprise, because I couldn’t have handled it laughs. They had told me she wanted to sing together, so I reached out to her and we were going back and forth on songs — Well, we definitely want to do a woman who is an Opry member.” We both love Trisha, adore Walkaway Joe” and we hadn’t heard anyone cover it before. I told her on the phone, I’m like, Listen, Carrie, I don’t have your kind of voice, so I’m gonna need to pick a song that’s not ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel,’ singing to the rafters. I can’t do it!” We found the perfect blend of a beautiful story song that didn’t make me try to sing like Carrie.
