It’s disgusting. Lord had taken Cobain up on his invitation to come. The day after the intervention, Cobain was visited by his mother and sister, who left his house in tears after seeing him strung out on heroin.

KURT COBAINKurt Cobain, legendary lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of Nirvana, the flagship band of Generation X,” remains an object of reverence and fascination for music fans around the world. Cobain’s final days in Seattle are an unsolvable puzzle of unconfirmed sightings and unsuccessful credit card transactions. Some people told the police that they saw Cobain in Viretta Park by his house in the Madrona neighborhood; others claim to have seen him in Capitol Hill, where his dealer lived. There are even unfounded reports that Cobain spent a night at his summer home in Carnation, a 40-minute drive east of Seattle, with a friend. Efforts to trace Cobain’s footsteps were further hindered by Love’s decision to cancel Cobain’s credit card the day after he left Los Angeles; this only made things harder for Tom Grant, the private investigator Love had hired to find her husband. After the card was canceled, it stopped reporting where it was used. Over the next week, there were several attempts to use the card — two of which, confusingly, occurred after April 5, the day Cobain is believed to have died.

Cobain’s ratty uniforms came to define the aesthetics of 1990s grunge, a fashion trend that designer Jean Paul Gaultier described in a 1993 Vogue interview as “nothing more than the way we dress when we have no money.” That rang especially true for the singer.

Frances Bean Cobain was born on August 18, 1992, in Los Angeles, California to musicians Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. Her parents’ rumored drug use threw her immediately into the spotlight. In 1994, her father committed suicide and her mom was arrested for drug use in 2003. Frances has modeled and performed, but her family life remains rocky. In 2009, she placed a restraining order against her mother.

Friday April 5, 2019, represents the 25th anniversary of Kurt’s Cobain’s suicide. The death of Nirvana’s frontman remains one of the darkest moments in pop history. Boston musician Mary Lou Lord dated Kurt Cobain just as Nirvana was rocketing from relative anonymity to international fame. Twenty-five years after his death, she tells her story.

Although I had been eagerly awaiting this documentary, at the same time I approached it with a wariness more than half expecting it to be a depressing encounter. Given what I already knew about the mental difficulties and addiction problems Kurt faced during his short life and the eventual sad outcome it was hard to believe that anything of a positive nature could be wrung from seeing this.

This image released by Julien’s Auctions shows an olive green cardigan sweater worn by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain during Nirvana’s MTV’s “Unplugged” performance. The sweater, along with Cobain’s custom Fender guitar, are among many rock and roll items up for auction on Oct. 25 and 26.

On the 25-year anniversary of Cobain’s death, Goldberg spoke with Yahoo Entertainment about the last time he saw Cobain, when Cobain’s wife, Courtney Love, asked him to help the rocker by being part of an intervention.

November 1991 The band starts a six-week European tour as Nirvanamania sweeps the United States. MTV airs Smells Like Teen Spirit” video constantly; the song is hailed as an anthem for a generation. A quarter of a century later, I’m still trying to unpack why Kurt Cobain’s work had the effect on me that it did,” says Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee, formerly of the outfit Noise Addict.

Before the release of Nevermind, Cobain had reconnected with Courtney Love, who was fronting the band Hole. The two dove into a whirlwind romance, and in February 1992 Cobain and Love got married and had a daughter, Frances Bean, that August.

Nirvana were a band that quite literally defined a generation. Emerging from the wastelands of 1980s indie rock and the rapidly growing Seattle music scene, the trio could quite easily have been lost in the melee of hundreds of young rock bands if it were not for the songwriting genius of singer Kurt Cobain and the kinetic instrumental support from bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl.

A number of photos show what police identify as Kurt Cobain’s suicide note and how it was left. Earlier this month it was revealed that the iconic, shaggy, olive green cardigan donned by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana’s 1993 MTV Unplugged performance is going under the hammer.

According to Charles R. Cross’ definitive biography of Cobain, Heavier Than Heaven , he was a joyous child, not at all mired in the gloom that dominated much of his life from adolescence onward. From the time he was born in Aberdeen, Washington on Feb. 20, 1967, Kurt Cobain was, by all accounts, a happy kid.

A: Yes, when I was talking to Courtney Love, Cobain’s wife, she said: We were both really ambitious. In my mind I was going to take Nirvana down.” And then she paused, and she said: You know, Kurt was just as ambitious. He just hid it a little better.” But that was part of his art. He was extremely focused and disciplined about accomplishing what he wanted to accomplish. This is someone who insisted on months of rehearsal before they went to the studio to do a record, who had a tremendous work ethic. And at the same time he created a character called Kurt Cobain. Hiding some of his ambition was conscious, and it was part of the creation of a persona that he felt that he wanted to create and that he would have admired as a kid. He’s not the only one who did that. I think Bob Dylan and the guys in R.E.M. did it.

A: They were a band that when they toured, they would have to sleep on people’s floors because they couldn’t afford the hotel rooms. They had no money, and they had the romance of being a young punk band that believed in what they were doing and they had a subculture that respected them. MTV was at its peak, and a month of heavy rotation on MTV made you famous to millions of people. So this became a global phenomenon incredibly quickly.

When Cobain was eleven he heard and was captivated by the Britain’s Sex Pistols and after their self-destruction Cobain and friend Krist Novoselic continued to listen to the wave of British bands including Joy Division the nihilistic post-punk band that some say Nirvana are directly descended from in form of mood, melody and lyrical quality.

A local news report from outside Cobain’s Seattle home following his suicide. An ABC News segment announcing Kurt Cobain’s suicide. It’s good to know that kids in high school picking up a guitar for the first time want to learn Nirvana songs,” says McCauley.

His status as an icon in music appears cemented, and nearly any poll of music greats has him near the top of the list. Nirvana was enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, its first year of eligibility, and the band remains a staple of radio year after year.

Eventually, after years of small gigs and increasing popularity, a 20-year-old Cobain found the bandmates that would become Nirvana. With Krist Novoselic on bass and (after a run of drummer that didn’t last) Dave Grohl on drums, Cobain had formed the lineup that would soon become the biggest band in the world. In 1991, the year after Grohl joined, Nirvana released Nevermind to both critical plaudits and massive sales.

When Cobain was introduced to punk rock music, a seed was planted that would forever change his life. He discovered the Melvins, a local punk rock group, and became friends with one of its members, Buzz Osbourne. It was Osbourne who exposed Cobain to more punk bands, but his newfound interest didn’t take Cobain away from self-destructive habits. Throughout high school, Cobain would get deeper into the drinking and drug scene. He also was fighting with his troubled mother and didn’t get along with his stepfather.

The Seattle home once owned by Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain and his wife Courtney Love has gone on sale in Seattle and is currently being valued at $7.5 million. Eventually, Cobain began collaborating with bassist Krist Novoselic and a local drummer named Aaron Burckhard joined them. The fledgling band’s first public performance was in 1987 at a house party.

Goldberg: I don’t know what the general perception was. But I know exactly the day I discovered that he was doing heroin. It was the day that the band did the TV show Saturday Night Live in January 1992. It was the week that Nevermind went to number one. It was so surreal to have a punk-influenced record replace a Michael Jackson album as the number one album in the US. It was an accomplishment that none of us thought possible a few months earlier, and they were doing Saturday Night Live, which is a big deal for any musical artist.

I can’t say which it was — despair or rage — that Cobain felt more as he composed his suicide note. The two themes were as central to Cobain in life as they were in death, seen in his interactions with a media that never quite understood him and heard in his music, as they were across the grunge scene. Of the four biggest grunge bands to emerge from Seattle — Nirvana, Pearl Jam , Soundgarden , and Alice in Chains — all but one suffered the loss of a frontman whose brilliance and charisma could not save them from themselves. It is a crushing reminder that these men, and others, were able to write these songs of isolation, addiction, and depression because they had lived them.

Kurt Cobain, guitarist, singer, songwriter with Nirvana was born on 20th Feb 1967. During the last years of his life, Cobain struggled with heroin addiction, illness and depression. He also had difficulty coping with his fame and public image. Cobain committed suicide on April 5th 1994.

Though no one knows exactly how it got there, the check fittingly ended up at Easy Street. The record store has been a mainstay of Seattle’s music scene since 1988, before the city became synonymous with the so-called grunge movement headlined by local acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains.
