Wallen: I definitely didn’t expect that with this song. Just because I feel like it’s really country. It definitely is. The subject matter, the sounds, everything that we used. But I think it’s just a fresh-sounding song with the phrasing and the rhythm and all of the production that we used, so it doesn’t completely shock me. But it is cool that I’ve noticed a lot of people who say, “I don’t listen to country music but I like ‘Whiskey Glasses.'” And they’ll start listening to other songs of mine. It’s cool to be able to relate to people who aren’t necessarily from the same way of life as me or don’t even maybe know what I’m talking about in some of my songs. It’s just cool that music has that ability to do that.

At the end of 2016, Wallen signed with Big Loud Records, a label owned by record producer Joey Moi. He released his debut single “The Way I Talk” shortly after. In addition, he co-wrote the single “Preachin ‘to the Choir of A Thousand Horses.” In April 2017, Wallen released a music video for “The Way I Talk”. She also joined the Florida Georgia Line to set dates on her Dig Your Roots Tour. He’s a passionate singer with a unique sound who grew up in Appalachia, and you’ll be hearing Morgan Wallen before 2016 is over. Wallen moved to Nashville in July 2015, not sure what he would find, but convinced that he should at least give his dreams a legitimate shot. Less than a year later, he’d already been signed to Big Loud Records, recorded some initial tracks with producer Joey Moi (Florida Georgia Line, Jake Owen) and hit the road on his first radio promotion tour.

With a new, fun energy in country music right now,” Wallen was particularly excited to work with Wesley as he continues to venture into country music.

One thing is different between Wallen’s hair and his dad’s hair back then, at least for now, although the Tennessee native won’t completely rule it out in the future.

Wallen has also written songs recorded by artists such as Dustin Lynch, Kane Brown and Jason Aldean who just celebrated his most recent No. 1, You Make It Easy”, which was co-written by Wallen and Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley from Florida Georgia Line.

A: Yeah. But I think there’s a select amount of people that consider me that. And I’m OK with that. I want my concerts to be rowdy, I like the rowdy atmosphere. I do stuff that isn’t exactly family friendly. But if someone really, truly listens to my whole album, they wouldn’t categorize me as that. When I first started writing for that last record, I was 21, 22, and a lot has changed for me. There’s a big difference between a 21-year-old and a 26-year-old, at least for me. There’s definitely going to be some growing up involved on the next one.

The native Tennessean made his way to the top of the Nashville heap and bypassed the major-label system to boot, remaining indie while connecting to hundreds of thousands of modern country fans. He was barely out of his teens when he had his first taste of fame by appearing on The Voice. But it was Wallen’s 2016 debut single, “The Way I Talk,” that really got things going for him, landing him in the country Top 40 and achieving gold status.

The Big Loud Records signee is known for songs like Whiskey Glasses”, The Way I Talk” and Up Down” featuring Florida Georgia Line. His full-length debut, If I Know Me, arrived in 2018. He’s opened for acts like Luke Bryan and Jake Owen. Wallen was a contestant on season 6 of NBC’s The Voice. He’s since appeared on television programs like Entertainment Tonight Canada, Celebrity Page, and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Morgan Wallen is a good example that even if one of the artists doesn’t win The Voice (or any competition like that), they can still achieve their dreams by using that exposure along with hard work and dedication to equal success.

Paul Wolfe recently chatted with the “Whiskey Glasses” singer. Both avid anglers, Wallen talks of a monster bass he hooked the day before, and Paul suggested tossing a line in the river near the Bangor venue to see what bites.

In 2016, Wallen inked a recording contract with Joey Moi’s Big Loud Records. His debut EP, The Way I Talk, was released in July 2016. The title-single peaked at #30 on the Hot Country Songs chart and was certified Gold. The music video for ‘The Way I Talk’ has been viewed 26+ million times on YouTube. Wallen’s second EP premiered in January 2018. It rose to #45 on the US Country Albums chart.

Like a lot of young artists, Morgan is also a songwriter, and he co-wrote Jason Aldean’s latest hit, You Make It Easy”. In between holes at Golf and Guitars, Morgan admitted I kinda would’ve liked to have kept it for myself” but at the time, he wasn’t working on a record. As it turns out though, having Aldean cut the song was special for Morgan not just from a professional standpoint, but a personal one as well.

Morgan Wallen’s debut album IF I KNOW ME (Big Loud Records) delivered back-to-back PLATINUM-certified #1s; Up Down” featuring Florida Georgia Line, multi-week chart-ruler Whiskey Glasses,” GOLD-certified lead The Way I Talk” and current single, Chasin’ You.” With over 1 BILLION total career streams to his credit, he received his first-ever CMA Awards nomination for New Artist of the Year, after earning a CMT Breakthrough Video of the Year award nomination for Whiskey Glasses.” The breakout star was chosen as a MusicRow 2019 “Next Big Thing” artist, spotlighted in CMT’s Listen Up 18 for 2018” class, and named a 2018 Taste of Country RISER among other accolades. Wallen has co-penned hits for Jason Aldean (PLATINUM-certified multi-week #1 You Make It Easy”), Kane Brown, A Thousand Horses and Dustin Lynch, and garnered critical acclaim for his cover of Jason Isbell’s Cover Me Up,” while on-fire Diplo collaboration, Heartless” continues to gain momentum nationwide.

In 2014, Wallen made his breakout appearance on The Voice. And although he was eliminated from Adam Levine ‘s team during the Playoffs round, Wallen’s songwriting and performing fate had already been sealed. After moving to Nashville in 2015, things really took off, with the young country singer inking a deal with Big Loud Records, recording with well-known producer Joey Moi and hitting the road for his first radio tour.

Wallen will hit the road Jan. 2 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and making stops in cities like Boston, Massachusetts, Atlanta, Georgia, and San Jose, California. He will finish out the tour May 1 in Denver, Colorado.

Wallen: It’s the biggest thing I’ve gotten to do so far in my career. Luke’s awesome, and his team’s awesome. I’ve heard a lot of people say that Luke is the same guy that he was when he first started…I can 100% see that. He’s just a good ol’ boy, and he has a great time performing, and feeds off of people. I think that’s the most important thing that I’ve taken away from his performance so far is seeing his transparency with the people. I think whatever the quality is that makes you yourself, if you let those true colors show through on stage, I think that’s what makes people really get it.

Just two years ago, Wallen signed a deal with Big Loud Records, with his first single, “The Way I Talk,” releasing that same year, reaching number 30 on the charts. Truly a good start. But in 2017, Wallen collaborated with Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, the guys from Florida Georgia Line, on “Up Down.” Released in late 2017, the single has been RIAA-certified Gold, hit number one on the Country Airplay chart and is quickly becoming this summer’s “It” song.

Wallen was raised in Sneedville, a small town in Tennessee with less than 1,500 people. He grew up listening to lots of different music: Because his father was a preacher, he was into Christian and gospel music, but he loved classic rock and bands like the Eagles.

But Wallen’s mullet isn’t overshadowing his success in music: “Whiskey Glasses,” the third single from his 2018 debut album “If I Know Me,” became a sleeper hit and topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for two weeks this year. The song is just one of three country tunes to reach the Top 20 of the all-genre Hot 100 chart this year.

Country music singer Morgan Wallen will bring his Whiskey Glasses Road Show to MGM Northfield Park’s Center Stage on January 16. Morgan Wallen took a trip to Paul Mole Barbershop in New York City to get his signature mullet trimmed and chat about his music.

Wallen: I’ve only been writing for about four or five years now. I’ve hit a good stride, although I still think I can learn, I think I can be better. It’s fun. There’s no real certain way that I go into it. I feel like I found a good crew of guys that I really love writing with, and it took me a while to find that match. We’re good buddies now, which really helps me. You don’t hold anything back when you’ve got your buddies. You have a good connection and energy in the room that really makes a difference. We kind of half B.S., and half write a song, and that really helps.

Morgan Wallen is known almost as much for his retro hair as he is for his music. The 26-year-old proudly sports a mullet, even though he knows not everyone – including his Big Loud record label – is a fan of the style.

Morgan Wallen CD, If I Know Me. Release date April 27, 2018. Morgan Wallen is returning to East Tennessee to savor home and share his music. Wallen just released “Chasin’ You,” the fourth and perhaps final single from his 2018 If I Know Me record.

Wallen: It really is. I’ve never wanted to go on and necessarily put on a show. Obviously, you’re putting on a show but you don’t have to in a personal way. You can sing a song that hopefully you believe, and you can go on stage and not feel pressured to be something different, or to feel like you’ve got to change something that you’re doing. You can be yourself. At that point, you’re really into the music as well. It’s not just the crowd; it’s the music and that’s what brings us all together obviously. If I were modeling something after Luke Bryan, I definitely can’t shake my hips like he can, so I’ve just got to be myself (laughs).

Wallen started woodshedding as a songwriter, working with the likes of Wiseman (Live Like You Were Dying”), Rodney Clawson (Dirt”), Chris Tompkins (Drunk On A Plane”), the Warren Brothers (Highway Don’t Care”), Tommy Cecil (Home Alone Tonight”) and Matt Dragstrem (Sippin’ On Fire”). Meanwhile, Big Loud proved that it was big-league – while Wallen worked on his own music, the label’s first-ever single, Chris Lane’s Fix,” went into the Top 15 and continued climbing, an unheard-of start for a brand-new label.

The singer points out that this trek will be a chance to meet the fans behind that response. “I’m looking forward to getting out and seeing the people who’ve been buying my music and streaming my music and getting up close and personal with them,” Wallen goes on to say.

This year, Wallen, who recently gained his second No. 1 with Whiskey Glasses” after his first hit featuring Florida Georgia Line titled Up Down”, will get his chance to come home to East Tennessee on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Appalachian Fair in Gray.
