mulan cast – Action Mulan Release Date

MulanDisney’s live-action Mulan is almost here, but there’s no wait at all to check out these new looks. Both Sides Have a Point : This trope happens the moment Shang leaves behind Mulan after her gender is revealed. Mulan joined the army under illegal false pretenses and has been lying about her entire identity, so Shang’s standpoint is understandable, if incorrect. On the other hand, Mulan only did what she did to save her father’s life, and she’s probably right when she implies (“You said you’d trust Ping. Why is Mulan any different?”) that culturally ingrained sexism is also influencing Shang at this point.

Towards the climax, when Mulan reveals that it was she who destroyed the Hun army, Shan Yu isn’t at all shocked and calls her “the soldier from the mountains.” Then he comes at her without wasting any time with the usual “I can’t hit a girl” or “I was beaten by a woman?!” stuff villains usually spout when facing a female opponent.

My daughter and I love this movie. It shows a girls love of family and that a girl can kick butt and take care of herself. It sends a strong message about friendship and how not to judge a book by its cover. The matchmaker tells her off for setting her on fire. No one contradicts the matchmaker because that was Mulan’s fault.

The new film’s storyline is essentially the same one as fans have come to love. Liu Yifei stars as Mulan, a budding warrior who forgoes the expected path of marriage and poses as a man in order to fight in place of her father in the Chinese army. Admittedly, there are some significant changes, including some exciting new faces in the form of Mulan’s new sister, Hua Xiu, and a villainous witch. Of course, the biggest change is the lack of musical numbers — don’t expect Mulan to burst into song while training.

Before fans begin protesting, Caro clarified, “But we do honor the music from the animation in a very significant way, that’s all I’ll say.” She also said, “Fans of the animated classic will find some really iconic moments in this.” She also clarified that Mulan’s dragon sidekick Mushu won’t appear in the new movie.

From watching the trailer, it seemed like we would get some visually stunning moments, there are very few things to distinguish the latest Disney’s live-action remake from any other martial arts film of the past. Disney may get lucky and draw in a new market in the form of martial arts enthusiasts to the theatres, but that market does not tend to jive with their usual demographics of a younger audience.

In the animated film, Mulan is an only child with a dog named Little Brother. Just like Mushu, Little Brother apparently got sent to the dog house. In the live-action version, Xana Tang will play Mulan’s sister, Hua Xiu. Presumably, she will take on the role Grandmother played in the animated film, which does not exist in the original ballad. You can catch the first glimpse of Hua Xiu in the beginning of the trailer.

Disney released a new trailer for its live-action “Mulan” Thursday morning and it teases a phoenix that looks like it will replace the cartoon version of Mushu from the original. There are a number of Hidden Mickeys in this film, including the spots on Shang’s horse’s neck and rump and in the training sequences, the first time the soldiers use their rockets.

Mulan is praised by the Emperor and the assembled inhabitants of the city, who bow to her in an unprecedented honor. While she accepts the crest of the Emperor and the sword of Shan Yu as gifts, she politely declines his offer to be his advisor, and asks to return to her family. Mulan returns home and presents these gifts to her father, who is overjoyed to have Mulan back safely. Having become enamored with Mulan, Shang soon arrives under the pretext of returning her helmet, but accepts the family’s invitation to stay for dinner. Mushu is reinstated as a Fa family guardian by the ancestors amid a returning celebration.

The film also stars Donnie Yen (Rogue One) as Commander Tung, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, Gong Li (who plays Xianniang, a character not seen in the original animated film), and Jet Li, as the Emperor. The trailer doesn’t show off her animal companions, a dragon named Mushu (who may or may not be in dragon form for this film), or Cri-Kee (who will be voiced by Jun Yu).

And by should it, I don’t mean should it make a billion dollars or not. I’m asking, should it even be made? Out of all the classic animated Disney films from the 90s, Mulan is a lot of people’s favorite, and for good reason. The music is stellar, the title character is probably the first truly progressive Disney heroine, and the setting and story are amazing. While the live-action version of The Jungle Book is proof that these new movies can be just as good or even surpass the original, Disney’s track record with these films is spotty at best. Will a live-action Mulan put Disney back on the right track? Well … Here are six possible reasons we should be nervous about this movie.

After Chi Fu delivers a “The Reason You Suck” Speech to Shang, who accepts it with Tranquil Fury , Mulan tells Shang that she thinks he is a great captain. Shang looks softened by this, though due to his position, he can’t answer.

The first trailer for the remake didn’t include any singing , which has fans wondering if we’ll get signature songs like Reflection or I’ll Make a Man Out of You this time around. The movie will reportedly feature instrumental versions of songs from the animated film.

A 90-second teaser for Mulan was released in July 2019, and it took all of three seconds to show a distinct change in the storytelling. Some live-action remakes have been remarkably similar to their animated predecessor. Beauty and the Beast, for instance, stayed very close to script, primarily opting to add new things rather than change old ones. Not so with Mulan’s story — at least, that’s the initial takeaway from the teaser.

The first full-length trailer just dropped on Thursday morning (December 5), and it’s been well worth the wait. In the two-minute clip, we see Mulan working to take her father’s place to serve in the Imperial Army and blossoming into an absolute badass along the way.

Ancient OriginsThe legend of Hua Mulan follows a brave Chinese woman who becomes a fierce warrior after joining the army to protect her ailing father from enlisting. A girl pretends to be a man and takes her father’s place in the army.

As the reinforcements solemnly leave the mountains, they are ambushed by the Huns, but Mulan cleverly uses a cannon to cause an avalanche , which buries most of the invaders. An enraged Shan Yu slashes her in the chest, and her deception is revealed when the wound is bandaged. Instead of executing Mulan as the law requires, Shang spares her life, but nonetheless expels her from the army. Mulan is left to follow alone as the recruits depart for the imperial city to report the news of the Huns’ destruction. However, it is discovered that several Hun warriors, including Shan Yu, have survived the avalanche, and Mulan catches sight of them as they make their way to the city, intent on capturing the emperor.

Eddie Murphy as Mushu , a dragon and one of the Fa family’s guardian spirits, previously demoted after misguiding one of the Fa family ancestors. He serves as the film’s deuteragonist. He is reinstated as a guardian after successfully aiding Mulan in her efforts in the army. Eric Kot, Jacky Wu, and Chen Peisi provided the voice of Mushu in the Cantonese, Taiwanese Mandarin, and Standard Mandarin versions, respectively.

Long before she was the heroine of a Disney movie, Hua Mulan was a fearsome warrior of Chinese legend. Miguel Ferrer as Shan Yu , the film’s chief antagonist and the head of the Hun army who attempts to conquer the Chinese Empire. Accidental Hero : If Mushu hadn’t decided to write the message to get Mulan into war, then the Huns would have made it to the capital city without a problem.

Who’s the best dog ever? Well, obviously, it’s your dog. Your dog is the best dog in the entire world. Everybody knows that. But besides your dog, who tops the list? In honor of the new Disney+ live-action remake of “Lady and the Tramp,” we pondered the eternal question: Which movie dog is our very favorite? Settle in on the couch with your furry partner in crime and enjoy our list of the all-time best boys and girls in cinematic history.

Long before she was the heroine of a popular Disney movie, Hua Mulan was inspiring generations of young people in her own country of China. The legend of this woman warrior has existed since at least the 6th Century and has hardly waned in popularity today.

David vs. Goliath : Shang is a tall and well-built man but Shan Yu is larger and stronger. Goliath wins that round. Mulan, who is even more of a David in comparison, wins by refusing to fight him on his terms. Critics Consensus: Exploring themes of family duty and honor, Mulan breaks new ground as a Disney film, while still bringing vibrant animation and sprightly characters to the screen.Mulan

Cover Identity Anomaly : Mulan does this when asked her name. Her family name (which she must use as part of the cover story) is Fa, but she hasn’t thought of a personal name, leading to a very awkward conversation where Mushu tries to secretly help her come up with a name.

The film stars Jet Li as the Emperor of China, Donnie Yen as Mulan’s mentor and army Commander, Cheng Pei-pei as The Matchmaker, and comedian Utkarsh Ambudkar as a con artist. Mulan is played by Chinese actress Liu Yifei, who has already stirred up controversy surrounding the film with her vocal support of the Chinese government during the Hong Kong protests.

A possible effect from all this is that the movie might be overshadowed by the controversy. And as much as I would love to live in a world where people on the internet don’t make a big stink about Laura Dern’s purple hair, or Princess Leia flying in space in The Last Jedi, the truth is, I don’t live in that world. And people love to spin narratives on the internet around movies rather than focusing on the movie itself. I just worry that Mulan, as good as it might be, may fall into that trap as well. Instead of people commenting on how good the movie eventually ended up being, we’ll be talking about how this is just another indication that it’s better to keep your head down and your fingers away from your twitter account when you’re out promoting a movie.

Mulan was supposed to appear as a young child in the original script of the film, but this was deleted because animators felt people would think she just wanted to be a soldier since it was a childhood interest, rather than to save her father.
