dermot kennedy tour tickets – Five Things You Need To Know About Dermot Kennedy

Dermot KennedyDermot Kennedy’s rapid rise is nothing short of astounding. She has the best voice I’ve ever heard, ever. On a voice note with no editing. It’s crazy. She sent it to me and I was like we should just put this on the song. It’s super easy to work with her. She’s just a good person.

Kennedy got his first guitar aged 11, and got serious” aged six years later, before a chance encounter with another of his musical heroes gave him his first big break. Beloved Irish songwriter Glen Hansard had been walking through Dublin when Kennedy spotted him one day in the street, around the time of his first recordings. I invited him to the studio,” Kennedy recalls. “He couldn’t make it, but he called back and offered me ten minutes onstage at his sold-out Christmas show.” The youngster performed his 2016 single ‘After Rain’ and the response was immediate: the track went on to rack up a staggering 33m million streams on Spotify. ‘Moments Passed’ – now with a spectacular video directed by Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar collaborator Nabil – won’t be far behind.

Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy just saw the release of his debut album, ‘Without Fear’, on October 4th, but he’s been performing sold-out shows around the world for quite some time now. When Kennedy stopped by the Theater to talk with NEW 102.7’s Karen Carson during our latest ‘Up Close & Personal’ event, he admitted he was impressed himself with what he and his team had been able to accomplish.

It’s been an algorithmic rise to fame for Irish busker Dermot Kennedy, whose debut single ‘An Evening I Will Not Forget’ found its way onto Spotify’s individually tailored playlist, Discover Weekly. The addition of another song, ‘Boston’ to Taylor Swift‘s personal playlist only boosted his profile.

Life and death. Joy and pain. Love and loss. Dermot Kennedy has always been fascinated by extremes. On his brilliant debut EP, ‘Doves & Ravens,’ the young Dubliner draws inspiration from all the moments of brightness and darkness this world has to offer, crafting music that’s at once soaring and intimate, stripped-back and explosive. Stuttery hip-hop and R&B-influenced percussion underpins his weathered vocals as he combines organic and electronic elements into an arresting, emotional blend that calls to mind the adventurous arrangements of Bon Iver, James Blake, and James Vincent McMorrow.

Especially in this industry. It can be very fickle. You never know. I don’t necessarily always feel like I’m on firm footing. This could all go away tomorrow. But that’s the same with anything, you never know what’s going to happen in life.

There’s one city that I hadn’t spent a lot of time in before I started touring. Not even just for the show, the show was great, but I really like Seattle as a place. I thought it was beautiful and we got there on a really sunny day and we got to go down by the water and really try the food and hang out. People were really friendly.

Kennedy describes his latest track as a song that aims to comfort and act as a source of reassurance to those going through a hard time in their lives. He said Outnumbered” is a song that reminds listeners that beauty is everywhere, no matter how dark life can get, and that hard times will pass eventually.

It’s all personal. I have one song that I haven’t brought out officially that is purely a story, but for me, everything else I’ve brought out is totally personal. I’m kind of lucky because if I touch on a subject like love, or loss, or whatever it is, most people can see themselves in that in some way. I’ve always tried to write autobiographically and about my own life. I think it’s important too because when you tour so much and when you play the songs like a couple hundred times in a year, you need to be able to remind yourself that you wrote it because of this thing happening in your life. And so, if you’re struggling with it, you can just close your eyes and relive that moment.

His success on the streaming platform can be greatly attributed to pop star Taylor Swift, who gave his track “Boston” a nod on a curated playlist, thus catapulting it into one of the most listened to songs on Spotify for a hot minute.

Just don’t expect him to abandon his roots entirely. I don’t want to go too far. The trick is to be able to strip a song of all its production and for it to still tell a good story that makes you feel something. Certain things run through all sorts of music that appeal to me, whether that’s a hip-hop artist or a singer-songwriter: honesty and a good story.” Dermot Kennedy’s story, you get the feeling, is just beginning.

Dermot’s debut album, Without Fear , released on October 4, 2019. Dermot has such an incredible voice that sounds as good live as it does recorded. Kennedy has become the first Irish artist to score a chart-topping debut album in nearly 20 years.

I would say, number one though is probably Bon Iver. I think one of the main things I got from him and from them as a band is that you can keep that intimacy even when you can have like 12 people on stage, because that was what I was scared of the whole time. Bon Iver showed me that you can have these massive shows, these massive productions, and sets, and still keep that closeness. So that was massive for me in terms of not staying in a comfort zone musically and growing out, and having these bigger arrangements.

Kennedy’s rise just kind of happened naturally. There are signatures, strong ones; the likes of ‘Glory’, ‘After Rain’ and ‘An Evening I Will Not Forget’ offering up an alternatively wracked and defiant soul in microcosm.
