This past weekend was one of the hottest days of the summer so far, however, Morgan Wallen was excited to play for his New York fans. And while he says he already has recorded a ton of songs” for his next record and could put out an album right now if he needed to,” Wallen is in no rush to move too fast.
Up Down” is in the top 10 on the country radio airplay singles charts and still climbing. The song is from Moragn’s debut studio album If I Know Me , available everywhere now.
Writing songs and putting out songs like his latest single, Chasing You”, is a big thing to Wallen. But for the East Tennessee country singer, the crowd staring back at him while on stage is a nightly reminder of why he does what he does and its importance.
The single is a collaboration with superstars Florida Georgia Line, and with more than 37 million spins on Spotify, to go with 25 million plays of the video on YouTube, it’s safe to say that it’s a fan favourite. We talked about the country music fans embracing the song and his music, and he told us that he really knew that it had happened this spring on his own tour. Morgan told me that about halfway through the tour dates he was able to look out and see the crowd singing along with him. It’s a feeling that a lot of artists have trouble explaining because it’s not comparable to anything else in everyday life – but it’s one that Morgan knows he’s ready for more of.
Growing up, Wallen played the violin, piano and guitar. He discovered his voice singing at his local church. After completing high school, Wallen decided to pursue music full-time. In 2014, he auditioned and became a contestant on the 6th season of NBC’s The Voice. His season ran from February 24 to May 20, 2014. Penned by Morgan, Jaime Moore and Craig Wiseman, Chasin’ You” is featured on Morgan’s 2018 debut album, If I Know Me. The new tune showcases Morgan’s smoldering vocals as he pines for a relationship that fell apart when his girl moved West to pursue her dreams.
In 2020, find Wallen on Jason Aldean ‘s We Back Tour with dates filling that long break in Wallen’s headlining tour schedule. Meet the artists joining Florida Georgia Line for Nashville Lifestyles’ Music in the City at FGL House on Wednesday, February 13.
Morgan Wallen did an amazing job and had a great voice. The venue sucked. The tickets said concert was at 7. We got in line at 615 and waited. The doors opened at 710. Once inside the concert didnt start until 820. The venue didn’t tell anyone what was going on. There were a lot of people around us who up and left.
NEW YORK (AP) — Breakthrough country singer Morgan Wallen is making moves with his hit single about drinking away heartache, Whiskey Glasses,” but he’s also turning heads thanks to his trendy mullet.
Fans might be divided on his hair, but they all agree one one thing, that Wallen’s latest single, “Whiskey Glasses,” is a hit. The song, which stayed at the top of the charts for three weeks, always gets a strong reaction when he performs it night after night while serving as the opening act on Florida Georgia Line ‘s Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour, a welcome return after previously opening for the duo in 2017.
Wallen was born in Sneedville, Tennessee on May 13, 1993. Growing up in the Knoxville area, Wallen’s father was a preacher who loved the bombast of hard rock, while his mother was a teacher whose tastes ran to contemporary Christian sounds. Morgan developed a strong interest in music at a very young age; he started singing in church when he was three years old, and took up the violin when he was five. Wallen later learned to play piano and guitar, but in high school his passion was baseball, pitching for the team at Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tennessee. Wallen was good enough to earn offers to play college ball on a scholarship, but late in his senior year, an elbow injury put an end to his days as a pitcher, and Wallen began considering music as a career.
Wallen’s music contains hooks that are heard through radio speakers and sung at live shows across the country, but for the 26-year old singer, who sports a mullet and a routine sleeveless flannel shirt, most of the songs from his debut album, If I Know Me,” started with thoughts of home.
Morgan Wallen is about 6ft tall and he’s a Taurus. He currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee. His net worth is currently under review. He has 125K+ followers on Instagram.
Wallen: I’ve only been writing for about four or five years now. I’ve hit a good stride, although I still think I can learn, I think I can be better. It’s fun. There’s no real certain way that I go into it. I feel like I found a good crew of guys that I really love writing with, and it took me a while to find that match. We’re good buddies now, which really helps me. You don’t hold anything back when you’ve got your buddies. You have a good connection and energy in the room that really makes a difference. We kind of half B.S., and half write a song, and that really helps.
The tour (full name: “Monster Energy Outbreak Presents: Morgan Wallen’s Whiskey Glasses Roadshow”) comes on the heels of Wallen’s summertime stint touring with Florida Georgia Line, as well as his latest No. 1 Country hit, the title of which gives the tour its name (well, the “whiskey glasses” part, at least). The Tennessee native was nominated for a 2019 New Artist of the Year CMA (going up against Cody Johnson, Ashley McBryde, Midland and Carly Pearce) and some have predicted he might garner a New Artist nomination from the Grammys as well.
Brian Kelley, left, and Tyler Hubbard, right, of Florida Georgia Line, perform with Bebe Rexha during the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena Sunday, April 15, 2018, in Las Vegas.
As 2019 winds down, Wallen is keeping his foot on the gas as breezy heartbreaker Chasin’ You,” gains at Country radio and he joins Luke Combs’ sold-out BEER NEVER BROKE MY HEART tour.
Wallen: It was a complete surprise. I wasn’t even thinking about something like that. It was about 30 minutes before we went on stage on national TV, and you have a lot going through your mind. They said Jimmy comes in and talks to people before they go perform, but just for a second was what I thought. He keeps on hanging around. I’m thinking Dang, he must think we’re cool or something (laughs). But he was just waiting on the plaque to get in there to present it to us. That was awesome.
Morgan Wallen will follow up his bourbon-soaked, back-to-back No. 1 singles, Up Down” and Whiskey Glasses,” with the release of new single, Chasin’ You,” on July 29.
Florida Georgia Line are coming back to Bangor on their Can’t Say I Ain’t Country summer tour. The show is set for Thurs., July 18, on the Bangor Waterfront. Dan + Shay, Morgan Wallen and Hardy will open the show.
Wallen has tours lined up with Luke Combs and Florida Georgia Line. The FGL tour is special, given that Wallen toured with them in 2017, and is now revisiting some of the venues he previously played before being able to count the three-week No. 1 Whiskey Glasses” among his credits.
Wallen has also written songs recorded by artists such as Dustin Lynch, Kane Brown and Jason Aldean who just celebrated his most recent No. 1, You Make It Easy”, which was co-written by Wallen and Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley from Florida Georgia Line.
After months in which the Tennessee native had gained impressive traction within the country music genre via certified hits such as Whiskey Glasses,” Morgan Wallen ‘s name began to be floated around as a possible best new artist Grammy nominee.
He’s my dad’s favorite country music artist, so … you know that phone call you get to make, like, ‘hey, I wrote a song and just found out Jason Aldean’s gonna make it his first single’…that’s just one of those moments where you’re like, ‘man, I’m actually doing the right thing’”.
I’ll never forget the day he walked in the studio,” recalls England. They said they had a kid from Knoxville with a lot of raw talent. We love working with all types of artists, but nothing makes us happier than developing something brand new. Morgan came in, and he looked like a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd or something with long, mangled hair.
Morgan Wallen is known almost as much for his retro hair as he is for his music. The 26-year-old proudly sports a mullet, even though he knows not everyone – including his Big Loud record label – is a fan of the style.
Song lyrics, Line “em Up, Knock ’em Back, Fill ’em Up on the front and song title, Whiskey Glasses on the back. East Tennessee native Morgan Wallen estimates he’s written around 100 songs since moving to Nashville and pursing country music in 2015.

Paul Wolfe recently chatted with the “Whiskey Glasses” singer. Both avid anglers, Wallen talks of a monster bass he hooked the day before, and Paul suggested tossing a line in the river near the Bangor venue to see what bites.
Earlier Wednesday night, the electric entertainer made a special cameo appearance during Florida Georgia Line’s downtown street party concert, celebrating the new Titans jersey redesign, to perform Up Down,” his Top 20-and-climbing single that features the MULTI-PLATINUM duo.
He has enough songs for his upcoming album, but Wallen is in no rush and continuing to work on it. He’s still riding the success of his 2016 debut EP “The Way I Talk,” and the title track has continued to gain popularity on country radio.
I really love Morgan Wallen. His music is great and he sounds great. I do think the concert could have had a better setup however. The stage was too low to the ground, so we were just below eye level with Morgan and made it really hard to see with all the girls on peoples shoulders and whatnot. The sound was also not very great. Me and my entire group of friends (there were 9 of us) could not understand what he was saying in between songs when he was talking.
East Tennessee’s Morgan Wallen will perform and open for Florida Georgia Line on April 29 at Thompson-Boling Arena. Along the way, Wallen notched another No. 1 hit, as a co-writer on Jason Aldean’s You Make It Easy” in 2018.
He mixes boondock bangers, amped-up anthems and sensitive, shade-tree poetry like a one-man playlist. He’s a fireball onstage, thrilling stadium crowds with superstars like Florida Georgia Line & Luke Bryan and headlining his own 2018 Up Down Tour. He’s a chart-topping songwriter with his name on tracks like Jason Aldean’s You Make It Easy,” a Grand Ole Opry performer and an artist on the fast track with over 100 million Spotify streams, earning the respect of legends like Bill Anderson and country’s new generation at the same time.
Very excited to share the latest additions to the Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist, which includes songs from some great records and artists that need to be on your radar. Ben Jarrell’s debut LP ‘Troubled Times’ has been setting people’s hair on fire, and there’s nothing better to get the blood pumping at the top of the playlist.
But Wallen’s mullet isn’t overshadowing his success in music: Whiskey Glasses,” the third single from his 2018 debut album If I Know Me,” became a sleeper hit and topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for two weeks this year. The song is just one of three country tunes to reach the Top 20 of the all-genre Hot 100 chart this year.
