pirates of the caribbean movie series in order – The Curse Of The Black Pearl DVD Release Date

Though their quality has occasionally been questioned (especially when it comes to the later movies) Pirates of the Caribbean gave us Captain Jack Sparrow, so we all owe it at least that much.

pirates of the caribbean movieOne of the original Pirates scriptwriters appears to confirm speculation that Depp will not work on new films in the franchise. A Pirates of the Carribean movie without Jack Sparrow is hard to imagine, especially after he became the most famous and popular character of the five films. It’s ironic when you consider that the top Disney brass initially hated his performance in Curse of the Black Pearl, which Depp based on Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. The actor’s reasoning was that pirates were the rock star renegades of the Seven Seas, and sure enough, his gamble paid off. Richards even appeared as Sparrow’s father in At World’s End.

As of 2018, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is still the longest film that Disney’s ever released. It clocks in at 169 minutes, which is around twice as long as most of their animated films. At the time, it was also hailed as one of the most expensive films ever made (until the next one was made, anyway).

Ragetti and Pintel were two of the film’s biggest sources of comic relief among the zombified pirate murdering and curse-breaking plotline. Many pirates are seen bobbing in the sea, their ship having sunk, and are begging for mercy. The captain of the attackers orders his men to shoot the pirates, which they do.

I’ve found that the Pirates of the Caribbean” movies benefit from low expectations. Take the original, Curse of the Black Pearl” from 2003. At first, it seemed like a bad idea to invest so heavily in a pirate movie (two words: Cutthroat Island”) based on a Disney theme park ride (three words: The Country Bears”). But the movie pulled a huge upset and proved the naysayers wrong: it was funny, it was exciting, Johnny Depp got an Oscar nomination for playing the mischievous Captain Jack Sparrow, and it made a ton of money. Then came three sequels that were maybe good for a handful of chuckles and one or two decent action sequences apiece. The franchise got old and wore out its welcome. Early word on Dead Men Tell No Tales” was that it was a pathetic, desperate attempt to extend the series. It’s not that bad. It’s on the same level as the first three sequels. It’s nowhere near as good as the first film, but it’s better than what I expected.

Elliott and Mazin were added to development to propel fresh wind into ‘Pirates,’ one of the largest-hauling film franchises of all time, which introduced hard-luck and hard-drinking pirate Jack Sparrow into Disney fandom and pop culture,” THR reported.

Later in 2017, we had ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’. We have a new nemesis of Jack Sparrow, a ghost named Captain Salazar ( Javier Bardem ) who frees himself and the crew out of Devil’s Triangle and vows to take revenge on Sparrow. On the other hand, a boy intends to find the Trident of Poseidon in order to save his father from a curse and for that, he takes help from Jack Sparrow. Jack also needs to retrieve the Trident in order to fight against Salazar. Geoffrey Rush finishes his celebrated run as Captain Barbossa. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley reprise their roles in cameos but the film again failed to reach the height of the original one. Its failure proved that the franchise has reached a saturation point, which also parallels with the fall of its star, Johnny Depp.

After being AWOL from the big screen for six years, Captain Jack is back for more misadventures in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (in theaters Thursday night). When compared to the previous films, does it sail the high seas or walk the plank? Here’s the definitive ranking of the five Pirates movies thus far.

Oh that’s right. Captain Jack does those moves in just about every scene in all three movies. And nothing remotely explicable—let alone iconic, befitting a multibillion-dollar tent-pole franchise that has seared itself into the collective consciousness—unfolds between the films’ opening cannonballs and closing credits.

There are a couple of moments set back at Tortuga, and they include material originally intended for the first film but included here. They also include references to the original attraction. Most notably there’s a skinny man shivering nearby as a man is dunked in a well. If anyone says, that the movies are nothing like the attraction, please point them to this moment, which is a direct (and highly specific) homage.

This thrilling Disney tale (the companies first PG-13 film) could be considered by many one of Johnny Deeps best acting performances. This though is one of two things that really saved this film. It’s interesting third act really surprised and entertained me while I felt the middling chapter feel flat. Overall though a good film. Though I don’t think it should be considered to be a over 74% film but I am okay at where it sits because of its legacy and success in starting a franchise.

The fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean” saga follows Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), the son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) from the original trilogy, on his search for the trident of Poseidon. Henry hopes to break the curse which forced his father Will to become captain of the Flying Dutchman in the third movie.

It’s The Hobbit movies except 4 of the characters have been replaced by a character that their actor has played in another successful franchise. Everyone just wants to get their boyfriend back- and, yes, there will be confusion between different “Sherlock” universes, and Magneto will be exactly as exhausted in this fic as he would be leading toddlers (let’s be real the dwarves are toddlers with a society and some caves), and Will Turner doesn’t get why everyone keeps telling him to use a bow and arrow? and Stephen Strange almost tries to bring all the gold home with him.

Mackenzie Crook as Ragetti : A pirate aboard the Black Pearl, Pintel’s buddy, with a wooden eye that never seems to stay in place. Keira Knightley is now known for her roles in iconic period-piece movies, while Zoe Saldana is the face of two different billion-dollar franchises.

Sparrow returns in the fifth film, portrayed once again by Johnny Depp 55 Some time after the quest for the Fountain of Youth, Jack has reassembled a small crew, but the Black Pearl is still trapped in a bottle, his new ship the Dying Gull has never left berth, and his latest plans have met with failure. Meanwhile, his rival Barbossa has become the richest and most powerful pirate of the seven seas.

The first film, Curse of the Black Pearl, is almost entirely a standalone adventure. Based loosely on the original Disneyland ride , it tells a single, coherent story that wraps up pretty conclusively. Following its blockbuster success, Disney greenlit two more sequels — Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, which were shot back-to-back and written to retroactively graft Curse of the Black Pearl onto the front of what was now a trilogy. As it stands, those two films largely serve as a single, extended story. It’s long, dragging, and increasingly absurd, but it’s still a single unit.

But when this protracted state of narrative lassitude suddenly shifts, “Pirates” brings in enough story line for several movies. And in the words of Bart Simpson, it takes a knife-wielding maniac to show us the way: in this case it’s the entrance of the pirate Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush, who’s nearly as game — and gamy — as Mr. Depp).

To find the trident, Turner turns for help to Carina Smith (Kaya Scodelario), an Elizabeth Swann stand-in who is suspected of being a witch but is really just an astronomer who knows how to read celestial maps. Carina wants to find the trident because, well … something about finding her long-lost birth dad. Meanwhile, Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), now so wealthy he wears a jewel-encrusted peg leg, returns to once again play both sides against the middle, even as his motives remain murky.

That’s still the case, but now the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is moving forward with a brand new take on that realm of pirates, rum, and epic battles. With new characters and adventures, Disney is hoping to revive that world.

Even if its milieu has run aground, this film is at least an improvement over the leaden On Stranger Tides The finale resets and resolves the narrative from the original trilogy, which I thought had already been done. Dead men may tell no tales, but neither do dying film series.

8. Johnny Depp wore special contact lenses in the film. The actor, 55, has starred in five films over the past 15 years, but it seems he may have made his last appearance as Captain Jack Sparrow. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge is in cinemas now. The Empire Podcast Spoiler Special will be published shortly.

Then, after the villains one-up each other with desperately dastardly deeds to demonstrate who has the super-evil-dude market cornered, we aren’t sure who we want to hate, either. And as the messiness mounts, we begin to care less and less about where this aimless projectile of a movie is heading. All that’s left is crash-boom! What was born from an amusement park ride ends up as little else. An almost three-hour boat ride through Disneyland’s pirate world. The monsters moan and the pirates prance and the ship rocks, but Jack, Elizabeth and Will end up meaning as little to us as those theme park animatronics.

Will and Elizabeth kiss several times. And after they’re wed—in a scene some will interpret as a morbidly romantic encounter between the living and the dead—it’s implied that they have sex on an island beach. While the two are dressing, Elizabeth puts her foot up on a rock and Will reaches over to grab her bare leg and kiss it.

It’s hard to blame Disney for avoiding a movie about pirates when you remember their last venture into the genre; Treasure Planet, based on the beloved classic Treasure Island, was one of the biggest box office flops that the company ever released (I don’t care what anyone says, it’s still a great movie). On top of that, Disney (and producer Jerry Bruckheimer) had already made some serious gambles on failures like Pearl Harbor. Honestly, it seems pretty amazing that this movie ever got made at all.

Will Turner looked pretty surprised to see his fiancée kiss Jack Sparrow, didn’t he? That’s because Orlando Bloom wasn’t acting; He hadn’t been given a script which included the kiss, and he was kept in the dark until the moment came to film his reaction. The oldest trick in the book.

Bruckheimer is right to a certain extent. Those movies stand out because of Depp. But, the character has become a parody of himself. In the last movie, it looked like they plucked Depp out of a pickled hibernation, slapped some makeup on him, showed him the first Pirates movie and said Do and impression of that”. Saying he phoned in the performance is an insult to phones. It was actually kind of sad to see.
