The artists themselves were great however Express Live is so crammed the chances you’ll be able to watch the show are slim. We were there before the last 2 acts and there was hardly any room to walk let alone find somewhere to stand where you could see. We stood behind people the whole time and watched the show from the big screen so it was kind of a disappointment. Had a good time just didn’t totally love how many people were crammed in there.

Dickerson: There’s one story where they flew us out to the wedding to surprise the bride as she was walking down the aisle. It was really cool. We still keep in touch with them, and they send us pictures. They just had twins. That’s all because of a song. There’s other friends of ours that we played their wedding as well. We’ll get to have some people on stage to propose, and that’s always so special. It’s crazy how the power of music can bring people together.
I don’t know if there’s going to be another single after this from ‘Yours,”, but we’ve been writing all last year with all the same writers, and we wrote a lot with the Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, so I’m so excited about these songs and some other new collaborations with songwriters. Everybody’s pumped about the next album. It’s definitely next level for me as far as songwriting and just being real, and so I’m kind of freaking out a little bit. I’m ready to go.
Russell Dickerson talks about the success of his debut album, Yours, and touring with Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker. Only about 20 people showed up — about 18 of them related to his wife, Cedarburg native Kailey Dickerson.
Russell Dickerson doesn’t have to look far for inspiration for his music. The 31-year-old wrote both “Yours” and “Blue Tacoma” about his wife, Kailey, and hints his brand-new single also honors Kailey as well.
Rhett literally jumped out of the stage (yes, he was inside the stage) and began singing his most recent number one hit, Look What God Gave Her” from his most recent album Center Point Road. He kept the energy going with three more upbeat songs, one from each of his first three albums; Crash And Burn” from Tangled, Get Me Some of That” – It Goes Like This and Craving You” – Life Changes.
Russell Dickerson lists Keith Urban as one of his largest influences. He has found musical influence in both his albums and live shows. When listening to Urban, it gave Russell Dickerson the motivation to create music that would make his fans feel something different than the music they typically hear on the radio.
He co-penned this love song with close friends and frequent co-writers Casey Brown and Parker Welling and it was released independently as a digital single on July 23, 2015. “Yours” was later serviced to country radio on April 24, 2017 after Dickerson signed with Triple Tigers Records. The track gradually gathered momentum and on January 27, 2018, it topped Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
Dickerson: The obvious choice is Yours.” That song has been my baby for almost five years, now, you know, and I’ve believed and pushed and fought for this song for so long. I think it’s one of the best songs I’ve ever been a part of, too. That’s my pride and joy, for sure.
Cedarburg native Kailey Dickerson has been a critical part of her country singer husband Russell’s success, from inspiring the songs on his album “Yours” to directing his music videos.
The wife of the talented Chris Stapleton, Morgane Stapleton is a force to be reckoned with. Besides being a rockstar mother of four with one on the way, she is a singer-songwriter in her own right. Morgane often performs with her husband, singing background and harmony vocals both live and recorded. Stapleton credits his wife for being instrumental in the creation of his award-winning record. In addition, she has written songs for artists, such as Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler, as well as, provided background vocals on records for singers such as Dierks Bentley and Lee Ann Womack.
Even as a Union City, Tennessee-raised, obsessive teenage music fan, one who’d regularly wait in wraparound lines to see his favorite artists perform in Nashville (I just got hooked on that energy”) and held up Garth Brooks and Keith Urban DVD’s as his personal Gospel, Dickerson, says being that dude onstage was always the dream. We would scream every word of every song, and all I could think about was ‘I want to be that guy!’” Now, thanks to Yours” and hook-heavy rockers like Blue Tacoma” and MGNO,” he’s steadily built a serious fan base of his own.
We’ve been featuring Dickerson since before he was signed to his record deal with Triple Tigers and way before his debut album. He was the very first artist at our first event in January of 2016 and we’ve championed his career since then. With two number one hits, Yours” and Blue Tacoma” and sold-out shows, he is well on his way to superstardom and here are 5 reasons why you should be sure to head into the venue early to catch his opening set.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in music from Belmont University and signed with Creative Artists Agency in 2010. 3 In 2011, he released an extended play , Die to Live Again, and opened for David Nail 4 He toured with Canaan Smith in 2015, 5 and Thomas Rhett in the summer of 2016. Dickerson also joined Billy Currington on the road in 2016, 6 and went out on the road with Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker on their tour across the United States and Canada beginning July 19, 2018.
I’m not out here to kind of just give it a whirl and walk away. I’m here to stay, and I want them to know that they can trust me, and I’ll just keep bringing the hits, try to keep writing good songs, and keep this thing going.
The first time I actually heard it I was headed to my grandmother’s house. We were leaving Nashville, and I was with my wife. We had the radio on kind of low, and then I heard the guitar solo on “Yours,” and I was like, “Wait, I know this solo. I played this solo.” I was like, “Oh, this is it, this is it,” and turned it up and tried to get video. It’s just overwhelming. “Yours” was almost exactly four years to the day from when we wrote it until it went #1.
I think there’s a reason that it kind of took me a little longer to get started. I didn’t just graduate college and get a record deal and have a couple singles that did okay. I took a lot of time building before I was ever in the spotlight, or had a record deal, or anything. To come out of the gate with two #1s is the dream that every artist hopes for, so it’s been really cool to put that time in – kind of in a secret place – and then once we hit the debut, it’s like all the gears are going, and it’s actually working. It’s so awesome.
Pearce is the sort of songwriter that can illustrate things in three minutes that most people can’t verbalize in a lifetime. Her latest album, Every Little Thing, is full of heartfelt masterpieces, including the title track, which the crowd sang every word to.
Davis did a few cover songs, including Starving” by Hailee Steinfeld and a short guitar play of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Before leaving the stage, Davis announced he was working on a second album and played one of the songs that will appear on that album.
At night, it’s a bedroom, and by day, it can double as a workstation for Russell to work on songs. “I’ve got my own studio setup, where I pull out the Murphy desk, then I have a laptop and two studio monitors on a shelf, and a little interface for audio and a guitar,” he added.
Keeping the music going, New York City artist and local Nash Next winner, Jessica Rose entertained the crowd next, closing out the afternoon. She performed her songs One of The Boys”, Rose Tattoo” and even covered Gretchen Wilson’s Redneck Woman”. The perfect weather along with the high-energy performances, it was the ultimate way to kick off the weekend.
Dickerson: Oh, yeah, definitely. I’ve been writing for years and so there’s tons of songs that I haven’t released. There’s certain ones that the fans have definitely kind of gravitated toward because we’ve been playing live, so there’s a couple songs that I really do want to release, just for the fans.

Thomas Rhett is much more than Russell Dickerson’s boss on the Very Hot Summer Tour: he’s also his best friend. Russell Dickerson talks about the success of his debut album, Yours, and touring with Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker.
Russell Dickerson: Oh, man. Yeah! To have a #1 song is such an accomplishment of itself, so regardless of how long it took, it’s such a huge honor to have a two-week #1 single. The journey was four years. It was January 24, 2014, when I wrote the song, and January 22, 2018, is the day it hit #1. To go from having a demo, pitched around trying to get a record deal and everyone said no…no record deal. Then, we basically started our own label and XM radio picked it up, and Spotify put it on a big playlist there. All of these things started building on each other. Then, we signed with Triple Tigers Records, and that’s when it went to terrestrial radio, and it just blew up from there. I think it was a 42-week climb. To work for something that long and for four years to believe in a song after so many people said no. I felt in my heart that this was the song that was going to go all the way, so until it happened I wasn’t going to give up on it.
Russell sure knows how to manufacture some of the liveliest and memorable songs. Every Little Thing” starts with a clapping beat that is consistent throughout the whole song; the combination of this and his catchy chorus is pure brilliance. Russell has a polished and smooth voice that you can’t help but to be drawn to. His vocals are robust from start to finish, bringing next level excitement to Every Little Thing”. With all of these characteristics you can’t help but fall in love and sing to this charming song.
Next up, Russell Dickerson took the small stage, to bring his high-energy set to the intimate crowd in New Jersey for an afternoon of hits and even revealed a few new songs. Rocking a tie-dye shirt and pink sunglasses, Dickerson danced around the stage performing songs from his debut album, Yours, including Float”, Would You Love Me”, and All Fall Down”.
New music is on the way very soon, and Dickerson says there will be at least two big, epic anthems coming.” With his wife Kailey as his muse for the material, we know it’s going to be absolutely legendary.
When Jimmie Allen’s Best Shot” became a #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, Allen made history by becoming the first black artist to have a debut single top the country charts. Interestingly, after losing the top spot on December 8 to Kane Brown’s Lose It,” Allen’s song returned to the top spot December 15, making Best Shot” the first song by any artist to reclaim the top spot after descending in over a decade.
When Pearce paused between songs, fans began requesting to see the recently engaged singer’s engagement ring. Country star Russell Dickerson on his new single being inspired by his wife and how he got his big break in music.
This week’s choice for Kick It or Keep It is actually not a brand new song, but rather one from Russell Dickerson that was released in 2016. Russell Dickerson is taking fans on a ride in a “Blue Tacoma” through his new music video.
