Casting for the musical has yet to be announced, but fans shouldn’t expect to see Streep, Hathaway, or Blunt on stage. According to the Tribune, an industry workshop was held in New York featuring Broadway actors Emily Skinner and Krystina Alabado in the roles of Priestley and Sachs, respectively, signaling that producers are potentially looking at more well-known theater actors to fill their shoes.

While her coworkers at Runway are said to be vapid and stuck up, they have a much better work ethic than the lazy Andy who complains about every part of her job (except all the perks, of which there are plenty). She is ungrateful for the experience and the contacts she gains while doing Miranda’s errands, instead she focuses on moaning about having to actually earn her dues. I see her as an unreliable narrator since nearly all of her commentary comes from the place of entitlement.
No casting announcements have been made either, so we’ll have to wait and see who will be filling Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep’s stylish being said, if Miranda isn’t played by this man, expect carnage.
God have mercy, I finally finished this horrific book! Honestly, it wasn’t so bad, just tedious and repetitive. I picked it because (a) the movie was coming out and (b) I recognized the title as a popular book, albeit a couple years ago. The premise to the book is that a young woman takes a Junior Assistant position at a high-fashion magazine and the She-Devil who runs the show. The movie had the same premise, but that’s practically where the similarities end.

That was a significant summer for Taub, who at the time was starring in her Shakespeare in the Park adaptation of Twelfth Night. In my review of that show, I wrote, “Taub’s songs are not only catchy but dramatically efficient, slicing through exposition and serving up objectives with a dexterity few other contemporary musical-theater composers possess.” I hope she is able to bring that same dexterity to Prada.

Andrea meets Miranda one last time in the movie when she sees Miranda in her chauffeured car. She smiles at her, but Miranda rolls up her window and gives a small smile in the car where Andrea cannot see it. In the novel, Andrea does not meet Miranda again but sees her new assistant doing the things she used to do when she was Miranda’s assistant.
When Streep is absent from the screen, however, the interest factor plummets. Stanley Tucci plays the obligatory Bald Gay Male Confidant figure (Willie Garson did it in Sex and the City). He does his best. The real disappointment is Emily Blunt as the Brit bitch who works opposite Andy: the one actor here who really does look as if she could work in fashion. But she is strained and awkward and has none of the drop-dead-sexy hauteur she showed us in My Summer of Love. Embarrassingly, she is made to say “loo” to show off some real limeyspeak. Perhaps she can be grateful she wasn’t given bad teeth.
It’s Miranda’s iconic catchphrase mentioned several times throughout the film, that’s all. Like “it’s showtime” in Beetlejuice or “four for you, Glenn Coco,” in Mean Girls, it’s bound to end up in the musical at least once.

She, her twin daughters, and her husband moved to a penthouse apartment on Fifth Avenue and 76th Street. She is the editor-in-chief of Runway, a very chic and influential fashion magazine published by the Elias-Clark company. She is known for wearing a white Hermès scarf in her everyday outfit and treating her subordinates in a manner that borders on emotional and psychological abuse.
A rare film that surpasses the quality of its source novel, this Devil is a witty expose of New York’s fashion scene, with Meryl Streep in top form and Anne Hathaway more than holding her own. Tucci has appeared on plenty of TV shows and movies since “The Devil Wears Prada” was released.
Shortly afterwards, Andrea saves Miranda from social embarrassment at a charity benefit when the cold-stricken Emily falters in reminding Miranda who an approaching guest is. As a result, Miranda tells Andrea that she will accompany her to the fall fashion shows in Paris, rather than Emily who had been looking forward to the trip for months, but is currently suffering from the flu. Miranda warns Andrea that if she declines, it could adversely affect her future job prospects. Emily is hit by a car before Andrea can tell Emily that she is not going to Paris with Miranda, making Andrea’s choice moot.
Ms. Hathaway shakes off her blandness only toward the end, when, in a climactic trip to Paris, Andy is drawn perilously close to her boss’s chilly flame, and where her intermittent flirtation with a rakish magazine writer (Simon Baker) gathers steam. But for most of the movie Andy is a cipher, whose function is to bring us closer to Miranda, the devil we are, after all, dying to know. In the movies no valet can be a hero. And in “The Devil Wears Prada,” it turns out, vengeance belongs to Miranda Priestly.
In the book version, Andy is asked to procure the published, but not released Harry Potter book for Miranda’s twins, but in the film version she is asked to acquire the unpublished manuscript (which she delivers thanks to Christian Thompson).
If there’s an unlikeable character here, it’s unappreciative Andy who doesn’t like that she has to live outside the bubble she grew up in. While she keeps being reminded that hers is a job that a million girls would die for” and that working for Miranda for a year would save her 3-5 years of experience elsewhere, she decides to blow up at her boss in the 11th hour. While the author was probably looking for the audience to cheer at the childish outburst of Fuck you, Miranda. Fuck you.” (p. 342) and the resulting flouncing from Paris, I found this tantrum to be déclassé and further proof of Andy’s wanton unprofessionalism.
Three months after the film’s North American release (October 2006), Frankel and Weisberger jointly accepted the first Quill Variety Blockbuster Book to Film Award. A committee of staffers at the magazine made the nominations and chose the award winner. Editor Peter Bart praised both works.

A interesting concept and decent actings, just like a nice direction. The Devil Wears Prada it’s a so-so picture. Not some great as everybody say,(have some boring scenes and go in a way of a dramatic romantic comedy with a feminist view; a very cliche thing in movies), sadly the script wasn’t very good written and had avoid this mistakes. Still the movie brings a terrific performance by Meryl Streep.
Without Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada would get maybe a 5 rating, but because of Ms. Streep giving a performance that will undoubtedly get her a 14th Oscar nomination it is reason alone to see it. Is it even possible for her to do something that is even remotely similar to anyone of her past characters? The answer is NO! Her Miranda Priestley is once again a completely new role that seems made for her and she is so deliciously devilish that you want her in every scene, but we’ll settle for a supporting actress nomination come February in a movie that would have essentially been Pricess Diaries 3 without her. A very enjoyable summer fluff movie that is a great escape thanks, once again to the brilliant Meryl Streep.
