The news come after an early announcement ahead of SDCC that revealed that Thor: Ragnarok director Taiki Waititi would be returning to direct the fourth installment of the superhero franchise.

Thor is a 2011 American superhero film based on the comic book character of the same name published by Marvel Comics and is the fourth film released as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe The film tells the story of Thor , the Norse God of Thunder who is exiled from his homeworld of Asgard to Earth While there, he builds a relationship with scientist Jane Foster. Dark Magical Girl : Gender-inverted; Loki is a sorcerer who Desperately Craves Affection and who believes that his father loves him less than Thor. Loki yearns for Odin’s approval while also being envious of his brother, who is a shining example of Asgardian manhood. Loki’s strengths, cunning and magic (the latter is, appropriately for this trope, linked with femininity on Asgard), juxtapose Thor’s brute force, and he utilizes them to antagonize his elder sibling.
Interspecies Adoption : Loki eventually finds out that he’s a Frost Giant who was adopted by Odin during a raid on his homeworld. Odin couldn’t bear to let the child die after he’d just killed everyone else in the area. Chris Hemsworth, of course, is returning as Thor, while Tessa Thompson is back as Valkyrie.
Even if you own the movies, watching them in order isn’t completely straightforward. You could watch the Marvel Movies in chronological order, beginning with Captain America: The First Avenger during the ’40s, as Steve Rogers takes on Red Skull. Or you could watch the Marvel movies in release order, which makes Tony Stark’s origin in 2008’s Iron Man the place to start.

The Destroyer arrives in the New Mexico desert and starts blasting everything with a heat ray. Thor and the three scientists attempt to get everyone away safely. Thor confronts the Destroyer and asks Loki, who can see and hear what is going on from Asgard, to leave the humans alone in return for himself. The Destroyer gives Thor a vicious backhand slap and sends him tumbling, apparently dead. Jane runs to the body in tears. However, Thor’s selfless act of protection proves him worthy to once again wield Mjølnir, which frees itself from the crater and returns to Thor’s hand. He is restored to full life and vigor and once again fitted in his red cape and armor. He easily defeats the Destroyer and tries to return to Asgard, promising Foster he will return.
21. Edward Norton’s version of the smashing Hulk often gets forgotten by Marvel fans – and for good reason. Whereas Mark Ruffalo’s bumbling interpretation of the character has a gravitational charm, Norton’s moping monster is void of any charisma. With Liv Tyler phoning in her performance as love interest, Betty Ross, the film falls emotionally flat and serves only as a by-the-numbers origins story.
At the satellite crash site, a crowd of local townspeople has gathered; people are partying and trying to lift the hammer from the crater. Later, S.H.I.E.L.D. arrives and take over the site, setting up a temporary camp to study the hammer. After dark, Foster and Thor arrive on the scene. Thor infiltrates the encampment while Foster huddles in safety. After beating up many agents, and being targeted by Clint Barton , Thor finally reaches the hammer but is unable to lift it. He howls at his powerlessness and drops to the ground, putting up no fight as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents close in and take him.
Avengers: Endgame is the last movie in Chris Hemsworth’s contract with Marvel. One lying lie isn’t enough for Loki; he claims that Thor’s exile led to Odin’s death and that Thor has to stay in exile in order to avoid a war with Jotunheim.
In the midst of a battle with Hela’s forces, Loki returns aboard the Grandmaster’s vessel, helping Asgard’s citizens to escape. Thor, facing Hela, loses an eye, and through a vision of Odin realizes only Ragnarök can stop her. He has Loki place Surtur’s crown in the Eternal Flame, and the reborn Surtur destroys Asgard and Hela. Thor, crowned king, decides to take his people to Earth, but they are intercepted by a large spacecraft carrying Thanos.
Thor lands in New Mexico , where astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster , her assistant Darcy Lewis, and mentor Dr. Erik Selvig find him. The local populace finds Mjolnir, which S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson soon commandeers before forcibly acquiring Foster’s data about the wormhole that delivered Thor to Earth. Thor, having discovered Mjolnir’s nearby location, seeks to retrieve it from the facility that S.H.I.E.L.D. has constructed, but he finds himself unable to lift it and is captured. With Selvig’s help, he is freed and resigns himself to exile on Earth as he develops a romance with Foster.
While it could be argued that Thor boasts the weakest overall trilogy in the MCU, as Thor’s character evolved over the years, his popularity has also increased; whereas he was once the butt of Tony Stark’s jokes for his blonde-haired good looks and faux-Shakespearean style of speech (Stark nicknamed him “Point Break”), Thor has gained substantial character depth and he has arguably become the most tragic hero of the Avengers – yet, the 1500-year old God of Thunder still nobly fights for what’s right because “that’s what heroes do”. Here, then, are Thor’s films ranked worst to best, though all are, in their own way, mighty.
Thor: Love and Thunder has been announced at San Diego Comic Con 2019. One of a handful of new properties to arrive as part of Marvel Phase 4 , Thor 4 will continue the story of Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder post-Avengers: Endgame and also introduce a female Thor – played by none other than Natalie Portman. Tessa Thompson will also return as Valkyrie.
You Must Be Cold : Thor gives Jane his jacket just in time for a wild rainstorm Even as a mortal, he can tell when thunder and lightning are on their way. When he agreed to come back for the fourth movie, Waititi delayed his live-action adaptation of Akira for Warner Bros, and it seems work will start on Thor: Love and Thunder soon.
Those of us who’ve been keeping up with the Marvel universe will recall that Loki faked his own death in Thor: The Dark World and is, by the power of illusion, impersonating Odin ( Anthony Hopkins , who gets to channel his inner Loki as he once again reprises the Odin role) on Asgard. Because Thor wants to protect Asgard, he returns there — and quickly sniffs out Loki’s charade.
Sweet and Sour Grapes : Thor desperately tries to get his hammer back and his heartbroken when he can’t lift it, but eventually accepts it. Later, when Loki sends the Destroyer to earth, Thor attempts a genuine selfless sacrifice, which eventually deems him worthy, and he gets his hammer back.
Thor Odinson is a fictional character portrayed by Chris Hemsworth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film franchise , based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name In the films, Thor is known as the “God of Thunder”, and is one of the most powerful of the Asgardians , an alien civilization with long ties to Earth, who are therefore considered by some on Earth to be gods.
Bling of War : Loki’s green-and-gold armour is magnificent to behold. It’s more stylish than Thor’s or Odin’s, which is not surprising considering that Loki is a master of deception, so appearances are important to him. An inside source has informed us that Silver Surfer & Beta Ray Bill prepared for Thor: Love and Thunder. I don’t care what actor plays either them; they’ll both be CGI.
Who is Thor when he doesn’t have his magic hammer or his hair to hide behind? Turns out, he’s still pretty arrogant. But Ragnarok turns Thor’s inflated confidence into an ongoing gag. Being a hero isn’t as simple as having superpowers or a cool cape. It’s about being the kind of person worthy of admiration — and in Thor’s case, being a god worth worshipping for the people of Asgard. He gets knocked down, pushed around, and totally walked over in this movie — but, like the puppy he is, he keeps coming back for more. He simply can’t help himself.
Loki subtly uses some at the beginning of the film. Specifically, he says the only way for Thor to solve the problem is to defy Odin , then sees the determined look on Thor’s face as the idea sinks in and immediately tells him that he can’t. It’s a really subtle bit of acting for both men.
Laufey releases a Frost Beast and the Asgardians retreat to the Bifrost. Thor kills the beast but once again the team is surrounded and things look desperate. Odin arrives and intervenes to save the warriors, apologizing to Laufey for the intrusion and attempting to reinstate peace, but Laufey states that they are beyond reason, that the Frost Giants are now at war with Asgard. He attempts to stab Odin, who blasts Laufey back and takes the young Asgardians home.
Insistent Terminology : Anytime a character references S.H.I.E.L.D. ‘taking’ Jane’s equipment, she insists they stole it. The official logo for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ looks retro. Break the Haughty : Thor’s banishment to Earth serves as one of these. Thor is a “vain and greedy boy” before it and a noble prince afterwards.
Ragnarok lives in that afterthought — the silly extended joke, the sly check-in to gauge whether the audience is paying attention, the sardonic eye roll. All of the serious action is tempered by Korg the rock golem’s inappropriate and steady cheeriness, or by characters literally gagging over the smell of melted flesh. It’s all to make sure that you know, and know that the movie knows, how silly this entire story about goddesses of death, lightning bolts, eye patches, horns, and the pronunciation of Asgard really is.
The storyline follows the original Thor at a point when he’s no longer worthy enough to wield Mjolnir, his trademark magical hammer. This leaves Asgardia vulnerable, until a new Thor proves herself worthy of taking up the hammer. She becomes the Goddess of Thunder, and fights Frost Giants attacking Earth. It leads to a Thor vs. Thor situation, while everyone tries to figure out who the new Thor is.
