twenty one pilotsTwenty One Pilots, the critically acclaimed duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, will celebrate their new album TRENCH with The Bandito Tour,” a massive headline world tour traversing through the U.S., Australia, Europe and the U.K. Time skip to the show and I didn’t really know what to expect. There were a lot of different looking people at the huge venue the show was at. From the super emos to hardcore rap fans and almost everything in between, the place was sold out, completely filled to the brim. This made me happy – all of these people who don’t look like they’d fit well together share this one common interest.

Twenty One Pilots is an indie rock band that hails from Columbus OH comprised of Tyler Joseph, singer, songwriter, piano & ukulele player, and drummer and Josh Dun, drummer extraordinaire. I first saw twenty one pilots on April 8, 2013 when they opened up for Neon Trees at the Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre PA.

Show this writer a band who can get a sold-out arena to sing along to a line such as We’re broken, we’re broken, we’re broken people,” and I’ll show you a band you need to put a death grip onto and never let go.

The mysterious minimal electronics heighten the otherworldly Dema universe that’s crucial to the mythology created behind Trench. Here, Dun’s drumming is both propulsive and groove-centered, giving the atmosphere a sense of majesty while illustrating the covert energy of the Bandito resistance movement.

Ride ” spent five consecutive weeks atop the charts at Modern Rock radio outlets nationwide in the US – the band’s second #1 single at the format in 2016 – while also ascending to #5 on the overall Hot 100.” Another global smash, Ride” is certified 4x platinum by the RIAA and double platinum in New Zealand. In addition, the track’s companion video – directed by Reel Bear Media – has now garnered over 657 million views via Twenty One Pilots’ hugely popular YouTube channel.

Since the band’s earliest days, live performances have been a crucible, a way of speaking its purpose and maintaining an unusually symbiotic relationship with its fans. Even when there were five listeners in the room, Joseph ended each show by saying, We’re Twenty One Pilots, and so are you.” Their Emotional Roadshow tour for Blurryface” was crammed with grand gestures and spectacle — Joseph leaping and planting himself atop tall objects with his arms outstretched or tearing off masks; Dun losing pieces of his red-and-black suit until he was bare-chested, smashing his drums with an unrelenting precision — that built a complex arc of energy and emotions.

Now by the time she had invited me I only really knew one song: Car Radio. Shortly after I learned Tear In My Heart, Kitchen Sink and The Run and Go. Then with the massive radio success of Ride and Stressed Out, I felt comfortable knowing a few songs I would be able to sing. It was then that I bought both Vessel and Blurryface and decided to give them a real, through-and-through listen.

In almost a decade of performing, the first gig Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph played together remains the most memorable. Go behind the scenes with Fit For An Autopsy as they track songs for their upcoming album, The Sea of Tragic Beasts.

Heathens ” — which hit #1 on the iTunes chart in over 60 countries – also rose to #5 in the United Kingdom and the top 10 in over 15 countries, with platinum and multi-platinum certification in Australia, Canada, Italy, and New Zealand. In addition, the Heathens” companion video received the 2016 MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video” and has now earned more than 1 billion individual views via YouTube alone.

The duo will embark on their fifth and biggest Aussie tour to date, hitting the arenas of Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane for all ages shows.

This is the answer to the eternal question: What do twenty one pilots sound like? Everything about the band’s character, musical methodology, pop sensibility and raison d’etre are fully realized on this song. The perfect gateway drug with all the elements of where they’ve been and where they will escape from for parts unknown.

Ride” was then followed by still another world-conquering hit single, Heathens,” featured on Atlantic Records’ blockbuster SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM. The 6x RIAA platinum certified single – which received three GRAMMY® Award nominations including Best Rock Performance” (Tyler Joseph, songwriter) – spent four consecutive weeks at #2 on the Hot 100” while also topping Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs” for a record-shattering 28 consecutive weeks and counting. The unprecedented one-two punch of Ride” and Heathens” made Billboard history, establishing Twenty One Pilots as only the third rock act with simultaneous top 5 Hot 100” singles in the chart’s 58-year history, following only the Beatles and Elvis Presley.

Last October, Twenty One Pilots celebrated the release of TRENCH with the first leg of The Bandito Tour,” a massive headline world tour that began October 16th in Nashville, TN. The first leg of the tour will traverse the U.S. through the fall followed by dates in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the United Kingdom.

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The word unlikely” pops up so often when discussing the duo Twenty One Pilots, it should come as no surprise that the band’s early strategy for building itself into a local touring machine was not inviting fans to 99 percent of its shows.

Twenty One Pilots released a new album earlier this year, entitled Blurryface. In its first week it was number one on the Billboard 200, showing just how strong this fan base is. The band also announced a US tour for the album, with all dates now being sold out. The guys have even dubbed it the ‘sold-out tour’ on social media outlets.

That’s not something that we chased after or forced, it just kind of happened. There’s a power in people gathering together and celebrating the fact that they’re all there. That’s why the live shows are so important. It’s more powerful than just that moment in time. It can resonate through their lives beyond that.

I attended the June 12th show at the Portsmouth Pavilion in VA and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to so far. It felt amazing being surrounded by others who love and appreciate the band as much as I did. It was also amazing to hear everything screaming the lyrics as loud as they physically could. You could tell the audience was touched by the lyrics, many people started crying during songs like “Kitchen Sink” and “Car Radio.” I also loved that they played their old songs (the set lists online are true to the actual event). I was grateful to have been able to get as close as I did at the start of the concert but as things progressed, people shifted, and me and my friend were about 2 rows of people away from the barricades! This was not just a concert, it was an experience that I will cherish forever and I strongly encourage anyone to go to their concert if they are performing near you (or far away it would still be worth it).

This song is crucial to the band’s creative resilience because it’s more Grand Ole Opry than wild dance party. The boys’ dip into an Americana vibe that made industry wags think they had the next Mumford & Sons on their hands. The video is 200 kinds of amazing, though, like they had to undercut its whimsy with something shocking.

Twenty One Pilots combines hip-hop with pop and rock to create a unique blend of sound that’s 100% its own. More recent releases from Blurryface and Trench even have the duo adding reggae to the mix.

Twenty One Pilots is a duo from Columbus, Ohio made up of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun. They released two self-released albums, Twenty One Pilots” in 2009 and Regional at Best” in 2011 before signing with Fueled by Ramen in 2012.

The duo that is twenty one pilots – Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun – has earned widespread acclaim for their energetic live sets and distinctive fusion of piano-driven pop and lyrical uplift. No strangers to the road, Twenty One Pilots has built a fervent national following via their electrifying live performances at innumerable headline shows and tours. The band was formed in 2009 in Columbus, Ohio by college friends, Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, and Chris Salih.

The story inside ‘Trench’ took as much time, effort and space as the actual album it inhabits. There was no defining moment in the studio, no breakthrough where all the pieces of the puzzle fell into shape. Twenty One Pilots have never relied on divine luck, instead focusing on hard work and their own hands.

The ‘Stressed Out’ rockers began the ‘Bandito’ tour in October 2018 and received praise for its complex staging, which featured elaborate pyrotechnics and burning cars.

The experience of that whole, if you choose to listen that way, is deeply rewarding and entirely unexpected, one that changes both your perception of Twenty One Pilots and of music itself. Blurryface is a journey that, in the end, takes you somewhere you couldn’t have imagined initially.

First song was Blurryface album opener ‘Heavy Dirty Soul,’ in which Tyler came out wearing his signature skeleton mask and sang into a microphone suspended from the ceiling. The crowd was nuts right from the beginning, as the moshing and crowd surfing started almost instantly. Second tune was current single ‘Stressed Out,’ giving the fans a chance to impressively sing and rap along with Joseph.

Now three years later, the duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have returned to write the next chapter of their story with TRENCH, the band’s highly anticipated new studio album.

The most heartbreaking song they’ve ever written. Here Joseph questions everything in his world from his personal belief system to the seeming futility of life. But he swears that when the time comes, he’s determined to report back from beyond. This song is why this writer believes him.
