Real Friends the album — due Oct. 18 — features a collaboration with Blake Shelton on the title track and his Top 20 single “Good Vibes.” Janson helped write many of the songs and spoke with enthusiasm about the positive nature of his lyrics during an album preview event earlier this year.

Born in Missouri, Janson was working as a songwriter as early as 18 years old, collaborating with the likes of Guns N’ Roses’ Bill Anderson and Holly Williams, granddaughter of Hank Williams, Sr. After relocating to Nashville, he landed a year-long residency at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounger, where he caught the attention of Neil Young one night with a cover of Young classic “Cortez the Killer.” Releasing his self-titled debut album in 2013, Janson landed two singles on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, “Better I Don’t” and “Cut Me Some Slack,” but it was his unpredictable live performances that really turned heads. Janson hugged Brooks, then through tears, thanked everyone, before telling the packed house he had two dreams when it came to music. One was getting his songs on the radio, the other was getting to perform on the Grand Ole Opry. As he tried to explain what it meant to actually become a member, he choked up, unable to finish.

In an interview with Taste of Country Nights , Janson revealed that he had Offset in mind when writing the song. “I said I wanna write a song somewhere between Hank Jr. ’83 rowdiness and the Migos,” he said.
