YoungBoy Never Broke Again surprises his fans with the early release of his mixtape AI YoungBoy 2. Gaulden, a father of four, reached the US Top 10 in May 2018 with his debut album Until Death Call My Name. In 2017, he was arrested on an attempted murder charge following a drive-by shooting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was jailed for eight months and eventually given a 10-year suspended sentence. In March 2018, he was arrested for an alleged assault on his then girlfriend, Jania Jackson, who later denied the attack had taken place. He also spent time in a youth detention centre for robbery.
But his legal troubles have threatened to interfere with his career. Last month, YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered not to give any public performances for 14 months after a Louisiana judge found that he had violated his parole ; in 2017 he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm.
NBA YoungBoy, who recently refused from the first part of his stage moniker NBA (Never Broke Again)” to avoid possible confusion with basketball league, had a tough childhood. He was raised by his maternal grandmother, while his father was put into jail and his mother left the family.
Born Kentrell Gaulden attended Scotlandville Magnet High School, which he dropped out, when he decided to pursue career of a rapper. Together with his childhood friend 3Three and a number of other boys they founded the band NBA and tried their best to save money for a recording studio. To achieve that aim, YoungBoy was ready for some criminal acts. One day he and 3Three stole car batteries and sold them to use this money for making professional records. Later 3Three mother Monique paid for the first professional recording session of YoungBoy.

YoungBoy tells in his interviews about his mother, late grandmother and siblings. But he keeps in privacy all the info about his father. He even doesn’t publicise his dad’s name. But in one of his songs there’s a line about his father, from which it comes clear, that his father is serving 55-year-term in prison. That’s his uncle told him, when he asked about his dad. NBA YoungBoy’s dad participated in a robbery and was put into jail, when Kentrell was just 8.
YoungBoy Never Broke Again has returned with a mixtape titled AI YoungBoy 2. His first project of 2019 arrives a few months after he spent about 90 days in jail for a probation violation.
The project, which arrived on October 11th, now debuts at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart with 110,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Naturally, YoungBoy only managed to pull out 3,000 in pure album sales with the remainder of the amount being dominated by digital streaming, translating to 144.7 million on-demand audio streams for the album’s 18 tracks.
NBA Youngboy is currently on house arrest after a probation violation earlier this year. He was sentenced to fourteen months on house arrest in August. He’ll be able to record music from his house but he isn’t allowed to go to an outside studio. Either way, it’s nice to hear new music from him.
Kamron is the second son of NBA YoungBoy and Starr Dejanee. Although the rapper and his girlfriend have already separated, he keeps supporting her with money. I have to earn a lot, all my family depends on me”, YoungBoy told in his interview. In summer, 2018 it turned out, that his ex-girlfriend Starr Dejanee lied to him, and after DNA test it was proved, that Kamron, known also as Baby K, is not biologically YoungBoy’s baby. But the rapper promised to raise this kid as his own.
AI YoungBoy 2 is the 12th chart entry on the Billboard 200 for the Baton Rouge, La. artist, who has visited the top 10 once before, with 2018’s Until Death Call My Name (No. 7, May 12, 2018). In 2018 alone, eight YoungBoy projects bowed on the chart. The new album is the sequel to 2017’s AI YoungBoy, which debuted and peaked at No. 24 (Aug. 26, 2017).
At No. 2, Post Malone ‘s former No. 1 Hollywood’s Bleeding climbs one rung with 99,000 equivalent album units (though down 8%). Summer Walker‘s Over It slips 2-3 in its second week with 78,000 units (down 42%) and DaBaby’s former leader Kirk is steady at No. 4 with 55,000 units (down 26%).

While some hip-hop fans will read these comments and presumably scoff at his perceived disrespect for the culture, I actually find YoungBoy’s transparency to be both refreshing and sincere—especially considering the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native doesn’t even like the music he’s currently making.
Kentrell was imprisoned in November, 2016 for opening fire in a public place after his concert in Austin. That incident happened after sad news about the death of his childhood friend Keondrae Ricks. Now he is on three year probation. In case he violates law during these three years, the rapper would be put in jail for 10 years.
AI YoungBoy 2 comes a little more than two months after the rapper was released from jail, where he served 90 days behind bars. Prosecutors successfully pushed for the rapper to be punished for multiple probation violations, which stem from a shooting in Miami Beach earlier this year, where one bystander was killed and his girlfriend sustained a shoulder wound.

While the K-Pop group SuperM beat out Summer Walker in a hotly contested race for Number One on the RS 200 last week, both albums saw steep declines in consumption this week.
