While driving through Spain with his band, Zack heard a song on the radio. I heard ‘Redeemed’ by Big Daddy Weave come across the radio while we were in Spain. God just got my attention and basically said, ‘I see you differently than you see yourself. And I’ve given you this gift. I’ve given you all these chances. And, I want you to use this for me. And if you will, I’ll give you things you’ve never dreamed of.’” That night Zach called Crystal.
Even though I grew up going to church every Sunday as a kid, even though I knew right from wrong and said I was a Christian, there was absolutely nothing about the way I was living that reflected these things,” Williams shares. It took a trip to Europe in 2012 to stop me dead in my tracks and show me just how lost I really was.” That year, with his wife by his side, his faith became real to him and he found renewal by dedicating his life to Christ. Achieving two consecutive radio No. 1 hits as a debut artist (Chain Breaker,” Old Church Choir”) Williams’ music comes from a place of humility and honesty as his songs are a direct reflection of God’s redemption in his life.
With my first record, when I finally gave my life to Jesus, everything that I wrote about in that was speaking of freedom in Christ and freedom from all the chains and things that I carried around. I grew up in a Christian household. My dad was a worship leader and I knew Jesus in my head, but I never really had a relationship with him. Growing up was all of that and just running from who I knew God wanted me to be for a number of years. There was a lot of guilt and a lot of shame that I carried around with me. I struggled for years with drugs. There was a lot that I had to break free from…I’ve met a lot of people over the last several years that struggled with the exact same things and I’m constantly trying to write from something that I’ve gone through personally.
