Zach Williams is a Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter from Arkansas. Williams grew up in a Christian home where both his mother and father were heavily involved in church. But as a teenager he drifted away from the values his parents had instilled in him.
Never in his wildest dreams did Zach think he would be in this place of writing and recording music in the Christian music industry, especially from years of hard living on the road while in a rock & roll band. He thought his life was fulfilling and he was doing what he had always wanted to do, but that left him empty, lonely, and further away from God and his family than ever before. For years he sought meaning and fulfillment in the unhealthy, and sometimes dangerous, lifestyle he was living.
His personal testimony of receiving freedom in the Lord is so beautifully reflected in his debut single Chain Breaker”. The song came from a place of wanting to reach people who had been struggling and it undoubtedly has. Over the course of it’s release in the summer of 2016, an influx of stories have been shared on his various social media pages by people who have experienced the life changing power of broken chains.
Joshua Micah knew God had something more for his life. Something related to music. Initially thought he preferred playing the drums to singing. However, his mother noticed a quality in the voice she believed would resonate with others and encouraged him to start singing, she turned out to be right and others noticed too, Joshua recalls.
Even though I grew up going to church every Sunday as a kid, even though I knew right from wrong and said I was a Christian, there was absolutely nothing about the way I was living that reflected these things,” Zach shares. It took a trip to Europe in 2012 to stop me dead in my tracks and show me just how lost I really was.” That year, with his wife by his side, his faith became real to him and he found renewal by dedicating his life to Christ. He hasn’t looked back since.
Zach Williams spent a greater time of his childhood in an Arkansas town called Jonesboro. However, the gospel music star, who was born on the 5th of March in 1981 made his earthly landfall in Pensacola Florida. Like the majority of his musical peers in the industry, Zach was raised a Christian, attending church and fulfilling his religious rites. Not much is known about his parents and there is no available information about his education. We, however, do know that for a long time, Zach, unlike his parents, lived a secular life. He formed a band, Zach Williams & the Reformation in 2007. The Southern rock band, for a long time, was a vehicle for him living what he has described as a wayward life, an opposite of the faith he now professes.
He was the lead singer in Zach Williams & The Reformation , 2 an American rock band formed in Jonesboro, Arkansas in 2007 by the group of Zach Williams (acoustic guitar, harmonica and vocals), Red Dorton (bass guitar and vocals), Robby Rigsbee (slide guitar and rhythm guitar), Josh Copeland (lead guitar, rhythm guitar and vocals) and Evan Wilons (drums). The band took their name from the desire to reform or revitalize the southern rock sound. The band released two independent albums, Electric Revival in 2009 and A Southern Offering in 2011. In 2012, Williams disbanded the Reformation due to his newfound Christian beliefs.
Have you been a part of an impromptu jam session? No jam sessions with other instruments but many people do like to sing along. My favorite was when I went home to Tennessee for Thanksgiving. I reached out to the Nashville coordinator and worked out some time slots for me to play in Nashville. This one room was filled with several generations of family who, I assume, have been singing together since birth. They requested several gospel songs and immediately jumped in singing and arranging the harmony parts. We could have left the hospital after that and headed down to Broadway and made quite the living just busking.
Meanwhile, the new album’s title-track lead single hits the top 10 on both Hot Christian Songs and Christian Airplay on the latest, Sept. 28-dated surveys, and Williams performs an exclusive live version on the podcast.
It was during their tour of Europe in 2012 that Zach Williams found his conviction in Christianity. The band was subsequently disbanded and he returned to America, rededicating his life to God in Central Baptist Church situated in his home town of Jonesboro. Even though Zack Williams was no longer a rock musician, the music talent that resided in him needed a form of expression and he found it in Christian worship. Zach in 2014 became a worship leader in his church and continued singing until he released his debut and most popular project till date in 2016.

In 2012, Williams disbanded The Reformation after a conversion experience and he started to record Christian material as a solo artist. He recounts here how he was rescued by Christ from his soul-destroying rock ‘n’ roll existence.
Williams was contacted by the Nashville-based prison ministry Men of Valor They had been using some of the Christian singer’s songs and inquired about Williams coming and performing live for a group of inmates.

What is your favorite song to play for patients? My go to MOC approved song is Stand by Me”. Whether it’s the first song I play or when no one can make up their mind on picking a song. Other than that, I prefer playing songs people request out of the blue. A recent one was a 90-year-old woman who lost her husband within the last few years. His favorite song was What a Wonderful World”. After I played it she ended up telling me lots of stories about him (from his sunny disposition to how he handled robberies while working at banks) and before I left trying to set me up with her granddaughter. It also always surprises me when New Yorkers want to hear some old country songs by- Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves, and Hank Williams Sr to name a few. The songs played are just half of the equation. The stories that people share ABOUT the song they requested is always so much better than the song itself.
